"Book 2 is as consistent as the first volume. In Book 2, the Germans have begun arriving in Bucharest. The Pringles are split up, she goes to Athens while Guy remains in Romania. But the Romanian police cancelled Harriet's return visa. What is to be done? "

" Tension picks up here in volume 2 of the Balkan Trilogy, as the war becomes a more direct presence in Bucharest, as do the fascists. The plot still progresses rather slowly. However, I do recommend this well-written, character- and location-driven novel. "

" listening to this, second in a series...A different look at the approach of WWII, from a British couple in Romania and then Greece. This series of three books--this one is part of "THe balkan Trilogy"--is followed by "The Levant Trilogy" continuing the story of this couple in Cairo during the war. "

" Excellent, well written, kept me reading...oddly. A 14-year-old English boy has lost both parents and shipped to a distant relative in Jerusalem. He "comes of age" as the saying goes. "
