"I am giving this book 5 stars to boost it's average rating. I would really only give it 2.5 or 3 maybe. Just to me personally, it wasn't very interestingly written. I have used Sparkpeople.com on and off since 2007 and IT WORKS if you really do it right. This book is only really half weight loss tool, and is overall more of a motivational or inspirational thing meant to make you change your whole life. I highly recommend using sparkpeople to anyone I know who wants to lose weight the right way. But the book just wasn't that great. Chris Downie is probably a great guy, and I thank him heartily for creating the website, but his personal story was not that inspiring to me personally. The book didn't have any new information, and the weight loss goals and things are identical to what you find on the website. If you haven't used sparkpeople.com before it will be new to you and might be worth reading in order to fully digest the information. I'm glad the book exists if it gets the word out to more people about the website however, but the website is the real deal."

— Kevin O Hwang, M.D., MPH, assistant professor of internal medicine, research scientist, and weight-management specialist at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston" The book was similar to most other diet/self help books out there, but the website is wonderful! "
— Leah, 1/30/2014" Loved this book...very middle of the road, positive, sensible approach to a healthy lifestyle. A lot of focus on non-food/exercise aspects of getting healthy, like maintaining motivation. "
— Shellie, 1/19/2014" I like that this book helps the reader think in terms ouside of "diet." It helps us realize that this is a lifelong journey, not a quick fix, and all quick fixes are doomed to failure. Better to be healthy one positive step at a time...and then keep doing those steps every day. "
— Wendy, 1/16/2014" I really liked this book. "
— Melvin, 1/9/2014" It was all right, nothing really special, though I had high hopes for it. You can get all of the information in the book more in-depth, along with much more information, on the SparkPeople website. "
— Candace, 1/4/2014" An interesting perspective on how to get and keep a spark in every area of your life. "
— Laura, 12/23/2013" Motivational and interesting - but I still get bored using the site. Perhaps why I am still fat.... "
— Julie, 12/7/2013" Probably one of the best and most inspiring weight-loss, get your life back in order, books I have ever read, and I've read a lot. It is simple and inspiring. "
— Misty, 10/15/2013" Excellent book ... more than just a weight loss book. Very inspiring! One of the better weight loss focused books I've read! "
— Amy, 9/25/2013" This is a good book with a common sense approach to health and fitness. I enjoyed reading it. "
— Sandra, 9/24/2013" Some excellent ideas and motivational to help you be more healthy. "

— Helena, 4/23/2013" Absolutely reccomend this for EVERYONE! "
— Steph, 11/18/2012" Very similar to the information presented on the website, but after being a member of the site for nearly 4 years, it was nice to approach the same weight loss/life goal strategies from a different angle. "
— Alexa, 10/28/2012" Another diet book--but it seemed that this book was more than that. It offers an online community of support. I think that there is some strength in having support 24/7 - maybe it's worth a try! "
— Marilyn, 7/31/2012" Nothing earth shattering here, but it's a great book. Especially used in conjunction with the dynamic cafeteria style website! "
— Rebecca, 6/15/2012" One of the better diet books ever written. It focuses more on the mental side of things, not the how to of losing weight. I figure some of the most knowledgable people about nutrition are overweight!!! Believe me, we know what to do and how to do it, we just don't. That is what this book deals with. "
— Angie, 4/11/2012" A little long winded for a health book. The topics could have been covered better in smaller bites. But the over all message was definitely good. "
— Elaina, 3/13/2012" This is a nice companion book to the website! Useful if you're not on the site, too. And not just about dieting/losing weight, but about living a healthy lifestyle in general. "
— Ashley, 2/16/2012" nothing I don't already know but I love the website! "
— Alicia, 12/30/2011" Interesting background on how Chris Downie got sparkpeople.com going, good information on health, weight loss, nutrition other than just the food facts and some very inspirational stories. Worth the time. "
— Monica, 7/27/2011" This is such a basic approach to changing your health, it really does make it seem as though ANYONE can get healthier and lose weight. It has some terrific meal and excercise suggestions, but I still love the free website the best. "
— Zoe, 6/24/2011" Good program if calorie counting is your thing, but I got sick of the ads on the website that the book tells you to go to about 200 times. "
— Greg, 6/21/2011" The website gets 5 stars. The book is kinda boring. "
— Kristen, 5/14/2011" Very similar to the information presented on the website, but after being a member of the site for nearly 4 years, it was nice to approach the same weight loss/life goal strategies from a different angle. "

— Gastoryteller, 1/3/2011" Not too much in here that can't be learned from the web site, but it is much more pleasant to read out of a book than off of a computer screen. Plus, it's nice to have it all in one place. "
