Every woman makes choices. And no one has made more difficult choices than Olivia Grayson. The enormously successful businesswoman missed out on much of her children’s lives while she built her legendary home-furnishings empire. In Danielle Steel’s character-rich novel, Olivia faces the past, tries to balance the present and make amends where due, while still running her vastly successful business. As a way of making up to them for time lost, Olivia spends months each year planning a holiday that everyone in her family will enjoy. This summer she has arranged a dream trip in the Mediterranean on a luxurious yacht, which she hopes will be the most memorable vacation of all. Her lavish gesture every year expresses her love for them, and regret at all the important times she missed during her children’s younger years. Her younger daughter, Cassie, a hip London music producer, refuses the invitation altogether, as she does every year. Her older daughter, Liz, lives in her mother’s shadow, with a terror of failure as she tries to recapture her dream of being a writer. And her sons, John and Phillip, work for Olivia, for better or worse, with wives who wish they didn’t. In the splendor of the Riviera, this should be a summer to remember, with Olivia’s children, grandchildren, and daughters-in-law on board. But as with any family gathering, there are always surprises, and no matter how glamorous the setting, things don’t always turn out as one hopes. Family dynamics are complicated, old disappointments die hard, and as forgiveness and surprising revelations enter into it, new bonds are formed, and the future takes on a brighter hue. And one by one, with life’s irony, Olivia’s children find themselves committing the same “sins” for which they blamed their mother for so many years. It is a summer of compassion, important lessons, and truth. The Sins of the Mother captures the many sides of family love: complex, challenging, funny, passionate, and hopefully enduring. Along the way, we are enthralled by an unforgettable heroine, a mother strong enough to take more than her fair share of the blame, wise enough to respect her children for who they really are, and forgiving enough to love them unconditionally.

"I swore off Danielle Steel after Friends Forever. However, I saw Sins of the Mother on the library shelf before heading for a mani/pedi and figured something to read was better than nothing to read. And I'm glad I grabbed it. I still feel a lot of her books in the past 10 years don't get very deep and it's like speed reading through someone's diary/journal but this was a good story and was great to have in the pedi chair. It's a quick, couple of hours read. It was nice to read about a strong, successful female character that's made it with support from her family. And it was a fun, breezy read that gives you a look into private yacht vacations, with all the tensions, support and drama that comes with family vacations. And of course, there's a happy ending for all."

" A very easy read and very sweet. I found myself smiling a lot. "
— Myra, 2/18/2014" This is the first book in a long where I liked the author's ending. The title is a bit confusing (at least to me) because the mother is actually a good person who had a lot of help raising her children so that she could run the business she established. Of course, the old adage - What goes around comes around is in effect in the storyline. I enjoyed reading this book. "
— Patricia, 2/13/2014" Initially I was disappointed at this latest offering by Danielle Steel, but in the end was quite pleased with the end result. A family saga with a happy ending. "
— Janine, 2/4/2014" It's was a very good book. "
— Virginia, 1/29/2014" didn't care for this book at all. "
— Jennifer, 1/25/2014" Exactly what you expect from Ms. Steel. No more, no less. But this was a lovely, breezy read for summer at the cottage. "
— Julia, 1/23/2014" I enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the story line with a strong mother who worked hard, and created a strong business for her family. Only to have some of her children hating her for not being there for them as children. "
— Dawn, 1/21/2014" Typical Danielle Steel, very easy read and always enjoyable, I always love reading her books especially after something heavy like a James Patterson "
— Robin, 1/20/2014" I really liked this book. It showed that mothers do the best they can and what they think is best for their children. Does not always mean its what everyone else believes is right. And that you should not judge someone because you may find yourself in a similar situation. "
— Kristal, 1/5/2014" I don't know what I was thinking. "
— cassie, 12/31/2013" I think this has to be one of my favourites of Danielle Steels. For the simple fact that it was like reading about my life. Hit home for a lot of reasons. Gave me a lot of clarity and ways to fix my own life. "
— Leslie, 12/24/2013" Haven't read a DS book in about 10 years, this was a quick read and entertaining. Ending was not a predictable DS ending. Perhaps she has changed her format (for the better!), I had gotten tired of reading the same old, same old from her. "
— Paula, 12/18/2013" Main character is Olivia Grayson- Story concerns this family- How they held together in the hard times and celebrated in the good ones-They have forgiven one another their mistakes and learned from one another "
— Kathy, 12/15/2013" Typical Danielle Steel novel. Easy fast read. This one made me cry. Will always choose her books when I want an afternoon curled up in front of fire reading. "
— Nancy, 12/7/2013" Typical Danielle Steel but still a good story. It is a quick read too if that is what you are looking for. "
— Mytha, 12/5/2013" Very good book, if a bit fast movement of the storyline. Better than some of her last books. Not so much the romance sweet stuff. Worth a read . "
— Kristine, 11/26/2013" Written like a bad lifetime movie with a seriously predictable plot. It was very repetitive as well which made it hard when I felt as though I kept re reading what I already had about the characters and their personalities. "
— D, 11/3/2013" Another Danielle Steel book......what more can I say. lol "
— Patricia, 10/20/2013" Good story I always enjoy her books. "
— Linda, 10/2/2013" Typical DS. Love the easy read. "
— Rachel, 8/15/2013" A well written book about the love and sacrefice of af a Mother. Very good read. "
— Rosemary, 7/27/2013" This was your basic Danielle Steel book. The same plot different names and different city and year. "
— Donna, 6/13/2013" I typically enjoy Danielle Steel for nice escapist reading and generally you come to care about the lead character. In this novel she seemed to be watching the activity at a distance and reciting what happened. An ok beach read but not one of her best. "
— Stephanie, 6/8/2013" Was a typical and predictable Danielle Steel. Not her best but not the worst either. "
— Tanja, 5/28/2013" I really liked this book and look forward to reading others by Danielle Steel. "
— Bonnie, 5/26/2013" Typical Danielle Steel, quick read but nothing page turning. "
— Susie, 4/23/2013" Terrible! I've read all her books and this is very disappointing and depressing "
— Heather, 4/15/2013" It was a pretty good book. It started out slow but it got better as it went along. The ending is really good. "
— Charlene, 4/11/2013" It was a good book. "
