Publisher Description

For seven years, bad luck has followed Ivy around like a dog on a leash. Her father disappeared. Her mother is a washed-up beauty pageant winner. Her aunt Viola has died. Viola did leave Ivy and her mother a house on Gumm Street, but it's not much of a house, and Ivy's next-door neighbors (bookish Pru, stuck-up Cat, and wannabe adventurer Franny) are worse than unfriendly. But then a mysterious pair of ruby red slippers turn up, and the four girls are swept away, not to Oz, but to the jaw-droppingly strange lands of Spoz, Spudz, and Ooze, where they are pursued by the fashionably mad Cha-Cha Staccato - who bears a frightening resemblance to a certain wicked witch.

"I took this book randomly from the youth fiction books at my library and was very pleasantly surprised. I love when I find a gem on our pathetic library's shelves. It's a charming story, and I look forward to reading more, if any are ever published."

" It just kept getting more and more preposterous, and I rarely think that about middle readers. Perhaps I shouldn't have read it after "War and Peace." "

" This book is very good. I recommend it to all girls 8-13. It is all about frienship, jinxes, secial talents and wicked witches! A true adventure and maybe not the best choice to read before bed if you suffer from dreams based on books! "

" I loved this book. I had to read it twice to fully get the meaning of it. It is a nonsensical, fun, daring read. It is reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. Cat, Prim, Ivy and Franny are wonderful characters, all unique. This book is a hidden gem. "
