Publisher Description

Beware the gossips! Lady Sneerwell and her hireling Snake are certainly up to no good in this timeless send-up of hypocritical manners. Thanks to their scandal-mongering, the comely Lady Teazle must fend off the slanderous barbs that have caught the ear of her elderly husband—as well as every other gossip in London! What follows is a torrent of mistaken identities and sex-crazed scheming in which the upper classes have never looked so low class. Includes an interview with Michael Hackett, the Chair of the Department of Theater in the School of Theater, Film, and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles.

This is an LA Theatre Works full-cast performance featuring Stuart Bunce as Charles Surface; Jane Carr as Mrs. Candour; John H. Francis as Rowley and others; Henri Lubatti as Snake, Moses, and others; Christopher Neame as Sir Oliver Surface; Moira Quirk as Maria and Maid; Julian Sands as Joseph Surface; Susan Sullivan as Lady Sneerwell; Tara Summers as Lady Teazle; Simon Templeman as Sir Peter Teazle; James Warwick as Crabtree and others; and Matthew Wolf as Sir Benjamin Backbite. About Richard Brinsley Sheridan

Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751-1816) was a beloved Irish-born playwright of the eighteenth century. He left a career in law to pursue theater, and in less than a year had made a name for himself among contemporary dramatists. Though best-remembered as the author of brilliant comedies of manners, Sheridan was also a significant politician and orator, serving as secretary of foreign affairs, secretary to the treasury, treasurer of the navy, and a member of Parliament for thirty-two years.

About the Narrators

Moira Quirk, a British actress and Earphones Award–winning narrator, co-narrated Ben Bova’s Mercury and has narrated other popular audiobooks for which she received Audie Award nominations. She is a successful comedian and can be heard on Nickelodeon’s cartoon My Life as a Teenage Robot as well as in The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd, The Wild Thornberrys Feature, and Serendipity, among others. She has also lent her voice to several video games, including Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and Haunting Ground.

Simon Templeman is a British actor who frequently voices vampire characters in video games, most notably Kain from the Legacy of Kain video game series.

Matthew Wolf has worked extensively as a voice, theater, radio, and television actor. He has appeared in many productions on the London stage, including the title role in a sell-out production of Macbeth alongside Twilight star Robert Pattinson. He is also the official voice of Thor for Mavel Studios’ animated films Hulk Vs. Thor and Thor: Tales of Asgard. He lives in Los Angeles, where he is also producing with his production company, Cool Hand International.

James Warwick is a narrator and actor whose acclaimed acting career has spanned the stage, television, and movies. He is best known for playing the role of Tommy Beresford in the 1980s British television series Partners in Crime and in three television films based on Agatha Christie novels.
