From the author of the runaway bestselling novel Best Friends comes a smart, touching novel about the intimate yet fragile relationships among five very different people, thrown together in a small medical office, and how each life affects the others.
Alicia, Brice, and Caroline are the ABCs—three close friends who have been brought together while working at the cozy medical practice of Drs. Markowitz and Strub in Midburg, Ohio. But when Alicia and Dr. Strub begin an affair, a dramatic chain of events ensues that gradually but drastically alters the office environment—ultimately requiring all five coworkers to redefine their relationships to one another. As Dr. Strub's romantic life is thrown into turmoil, Dr. Markowitz is faced with the dire illness of his own wife and the secret life she has kept from him. Nurse Alicia withdraws to focus on her prodigy son; receptionist Caroline enters into a strange romance she previously would have dismissed; and office manager Brice, his once-ordered world disintegrating, is set dangerously adrift. Finally, a questionable business venture that evolves into financial scandal precipitates a monstrous tragedy that threatens to destroy everyone involved. Warm, moving, and witty, The Office of Desire offers an insightful look at human nature that will appeal to those who loved Moody's previous novel and anyone else who has worked in an office.

"Fascinating - relationships in a small office - the shifting balance of power - people who know too much about one another's lives, a love affair , death and religion. Dark humor -couldn't stop reading it.."
— Marty (5 out of 5 stars)
Played to the hilt by Renée Raudman and Todd McLaren.
— AudioFile“Moody stages this sharply observed tale of office relationships gone very wrong at a small Ohio medical practice…Moody keeps things moving…and gets the details right, whether adding up emotional balances, Prozac samples, or a patient’s bill.”
— Publishers Weekly“Moody’s second outing perfectly captures the nuances of a small group of people working closely together in an insular environment.”
— Booklist“Played to the hilt by Renée Raudman and Todd McLaren.”
— AudioFile" Kind of an odd story "
— Su, 2/20/2014" Listened to this on CD "
— Laurie, 2/19/2014" It drags but I have to finish it! "
— Jeanette, 2/10/2014" I borrowed this book from a friend and just couldn't get into it. I've vowed to myself I wouldn't waste time on books that didn't keep my attention, because I have too many on my TBR shelf. Maybe I'll give it another try some day. It's disappointing because I really liked her first book - Best Friends. "
— Brandie, 2/8/2014" I can count on one hand how many books I have not finished reading. Even if it's not a good read, I will read it until the end. I could not do that with this book. I started it a couple of weeks ago on a flight up north, bought a book in NorCal for the ride home because this one wasn't holding my interest. Fast forward two weeks -- I've probably read 3-4 books in that time -- and decided I would try to get into this book on a flight home last night. It was painful! I almost left it on the plane! Maybe it is because it jumps around from each character's point of view and I was not paying good enough attention. At any rate, this is a thumbs down for me. "
— Leslie, 1/23/2014" Really did not like this book. Would not recommend for reading. "
— Emily, 1/23/2014" This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't my style. The story seemed to jump around too much for me to stay completely interested. There were some truly sad and touching moments and some good messages in it that I liked, I just would have liked if the story flowed a bit better. I did really like the ending and the possibility of something happening between two of the characters in the future. "
— Myndi, 1/21/2014" So far it seems like a total fluff light read witha bit of office drama. "
— Tisha, 1/19/2014" This was a very complicated book to follow..it is written from two peoples point of view. I had a hard time reading it and was fairly disappointed with the ending too. "
— Elisa, 1/14/2014" boring, depressing. "
— Emily, 12/31/2013" Hated, hated, hated it. Could not bring myself to finish it. Very upsetting because I really enjoyed reading Best Friends. "
— Alison, 12/13/2013" Interesting view of the personal connections that people make when they work together. The intimacy - and the distance - that coworkers maintain in the office. "
— Kit, 11/19/2013" It's amazing that you can write a compelling novel writing only about the five employees of a two-doctor medical practice in a small town. Yet the author managed. "
— Cranky, 11/8/2013" This was a strange book "
— Melissa, 11/5/2013" Written by a friend of mine who lives in Centerville. This and her previous book, Best Friends are very well written. "
— Deb, 10/19/2013" Did not like. LOVED her first book, this one was boring boring boring! "
— Andrea, 8/30/2013" I found this whole book to be just blah--the characters, the storyline, the setting. I don't even know what to write in this review to describe the blahness. "
— Cynthia, 5/5/2013" I don't know how to say why I liked this book as much as I did... but I really, really did. "
— Tory, 3/19/2013" I had to force myself to finish this book. It was AWFUL! "
— Jessica, 1/30/2013" Half of a 2-for-$10 from Walgreens. Not very good. "
— Kristie, 10/13/2012" This was a fast read, but I just couldn't get into it (which seems like a contradiction, but it's not). It felt like the author was striving toward melodrama with all of the tragic elements to the story, but it came across as rather contrived. "
— Jennifer, 9/25/2012" It fell a little flat at the end. Not my favorite read, but not bad either. "
— Myra, 6/13/2012" BORING! I kept reading thinking it would get better and it never did. "
— Renee, 5/12/2012" I would MUCH rather have just re-read "Best Friends." Neither of the other two books of hers have come anywhere close to that one. "
— Ashley, 12/4/2011" This was a good book - an easy, entertaining read. Would definitely recommend. "
— Stephanie, 8/29/2011" Really did not like this book. Would not recommend for reading. "
— Emily, 8/18/2010" Just pass this one on by... move along, nothing worthy of much time between the front and back cover of this one. "
— Ange, 6/1/2010" I really disliked the book. The characters were unlikable and the storyline was boring! "
— Erin, 9/10/2009" Written by a friend of mine who lives in Centerville. This and her previous book, Best Friends are very well written. "
— Deb, 8/19/2009" Half of a 2-for-$10 from Walgreens. Not very good. "
— Kristie, 7/19/2009" I found this whole book to be just blah--the characters, the storyline, the setting. I don't even know what to write in this review to describe the blahness. "
— Cynthia, 7/16/2009" A good writer though liked her first book better. She has a knack for creating odd and unusual characters that are perfectly believable. "
