Publisher Description

A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation written by Amanda Whittington, originally broadcast as the Afternoon Play on 23 February 2009.

This is the tumultuous tale of the trial of Lady Jane Grey, proclaimed Queen of England in 1553 at the age of 16, nine days later locked in the Tower, and, within a year, dead.

Loo Brealey puts in a superb performance (Observer) as Lady Jane Grey, with Emma Stansfield as Nurse Ellen, Helen Schlesinger as Frances, and Agnes Bateman as the young Jane. Also stars Janice Acquah, Paul Rider, Robert Lonsdale, Stephen Critchlow, Malcolm Tierney, and Zebedee Soanes.

"I like historical fiction, especially when it's about royalty. I had never read a book by Ann Rinaldi before, although I'd heard HORRIBLE things about My Heart is on the Ground. This book was exciting and while I don't know enough about the period to know how historically accurate it was, she did give a bibliography at the end with suggestions for further reading. I didn't know too much about Jane Grey but I want to find out more now. The book was mainly a children's book, but there is a little bit of implied sexuality (It's royalty, how could there not be?) so probably older elementary-middle school age depending on the maturity of the child."

" Nine Days a Queen was one of my favorite books in sixth grade, an ingenious creation that made me wonder what I would do if I were in Jane's situations throughout the book. "

" The historical novel Nine Days A Queen, by Ann Rinaldi, is the story of Lady Jane Gray and how she was the queen of England for only nine days. It talks about how Jane was living a hard life at home, being beaten by her parents, and then one day she gets called into court, and her life is changed as she is viciously pawned off and used to gain prestige. I really enjoyed reading this book. I was entertained and enthralled, and at the same time, I was learning about English history. "

" This was a short historical fiction on the life of Jane Grey, who was only queen of England nine days before being imprisoned and eventually beheaded. This story follows closely the store told in the Young Elizabeth book I read last year. The author is more compassionate to Jane Grey and portrays her as a victim rather than a conniver. It was interesting. "

" I appreciate this book for its character development and the immediate immersion of the reader in the setting. I wish there could have been more details. It was also very unusual because I don't think I've ever read a book where the sole narrator dies. "

" Quick and easy historical fiction based in the King Henry 8th time period. This book shows the twisted minds of those in power combined with the innocence of a child. Great book, couldn't put it down. Easily one of my favorite books. "
