Everything Aoife thought she knew about the world was a lie. There is no Necrovirus. And Aoife isn't going to succomb to madness because of a latent strain—she will lose her faculties because she is allergic to iron. Aoife isn't human. She is a changeling—half human and half from the land of Thorn. And time is running out for her.

When Aoife destroyed the Lovecraft engine she released the monsters from the Thorn Lands into the Iron Lands and now she must find a way to seal the gates and reverse the destruction she's ravaged on the world that's about to poison her.

" This follow up to The Iron Thorn went on a different direction than I had anticipated. Aoife learns more about her powers and goes on a crazy adventure that at times feels very much like a sidestep from the world of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials. "

" I didn't know if I would remember enough from the first book but I did remember enough and had clues from this one to kep me going. I love the originality of the storyand how steampunk blends seamlessly with the human world and the world of the fae. "

" The first book in the series was the best, and this one felt a bit rushed. But I'm still pumped up to read the 3rd in the series! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Joy | 1/22/2013

" I'm reducing this to 2 stars because the female protagonist has just gotten on my last nerve. Repetitive mistakes in her choice of actions and too self centered. That she carries the story gives little to the other character development. "

" Surprisingly good. The Iron Thorn was better, but this is a worthy sequel that has me waiting for the last installment. If you like steampunk, this is a good series. "

" Yeesh, it went right downhill. The first book was SOOOO good. Really I would have given this one a two if it weren't for the fondness I had for the first one. The characters went from sublimely interesting to boring. To bad. and that ending... tacked on. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Darceylaine | 2/24/2012

" Bumpy start. Her re-exposition of book 1 is kind of clumsily done. Having trouble wondering why I was so anxious for book 2. "
