George Saunders is the author of the story collections CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, Pastoralia, and In Persuasion Nation; an illustrated novella, The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil; and a children's book, The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip. The Braindead Megaphone, a collection of his essays, many of which first appeared in The New Yorker, was released in September 2007. He has contributed fiction and humor pieces to the magazine since 1992. His most recent story, Puppy, appeared in the May 28th 2007 issue.
Jonathan Safran Foer made his fiction debut in The New Yorker's 2001 Summer Fiction Issue with The Very Rigid Search. The story was part of his first novel, Everything Is Illuminated, which received a National Jewish Book Award for fiction and was made into a feature film in 2005. He is also the author of the novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and the editor of the anthology A Convergence of Birds: Original Fiction and Poetry Inspired by the Work of Joseph Cornell.
