This riveting tale from critically acclaimed author Paul Theroux inspired a powerful motion picture and is considered a modern masterpiece. Allie Fox is a brilliant inventor. He's also a deeply paranoid man who is disenchanted with American materialism and conformity. Abandoning his old life, he believes he can build a better existence for his family in the Honduran jungle. But Allie's utopian ideals are more easily imagined than realized, and soon his dark obsessions lead his family down an extremely angerous path.

" Mooi boek over een man Allie Fox die zijn familie meeneemt om een nieuwe beschaving te starten aan de kust van Honduras, wat eindigt in een nachtmerrie, helemaal als deze man een machine wil gaan bouwen die vuur in ijs gaat veranderen voor de inboorlingen.[return][return]The Mosquito Coast werd verkozen tot roman van het jaar door The yorkshire Post. " ..an interesting story of wanting to be away from North American society and doing it by going to live in the jungle in Honduras...sure the educational system is not what it should be in North America but is taking the kids up an unknown jungle river in a floating shack with no food or money much of an education? " This is a genuinely fascinating account of a dogmatic genius who is at once troubled by the modern industrial world and compelled by it. It's a great story about the family dragged along to South America with this genius, and it's well-paced and funny as hell, but it actually gives quite a bit of food for thought. Can you reject man's essential nature and greediness while also embracing the industrial revolution? Hm. "
