In the bestselling tradition of The Friday Night Knitting Club and The Jane Austen Book Club, three women find unexpected answers, happiness, and one another, using Meryl Streep’s movies as their inspiration.
Two sisters and the cousin they grew up with after a tragedy are summoned home to their family matriarch’s inn on the coast of Maine for a shocking announcement. Suddenly, Isabel, June, and Kat are sharing the attic bedroom—and barely speaking. But when innkeeper Lolly asks them to join her and the guests in the parlor for weekly Movie Night—it’s Meryl Streep month—they find themselves sharing secrets, talking long into the night... and questioning everything they thought they knew about life, love, and one another.
Each woman sees her complicated life reflected through the magic of cinema: Isabel’s husband is having an affair, and an old pact may keep her from what she wants most...June has promised her seven-year-old son that she will somehow find his father, who he’s never known...and Kat is ambivalent about accepting her lifelong best friend’s marriage proposal. Through everything, Lolly has always been there for them, and now Isabel, June, Kat—and Meryl—must be there for her. Finding themselves. Finding each other. Finding a happy ending.

"I LOVED this book. I am a HUGE Meryl Streep fan but realized I haven't seen all of her movies. So, this book sparked an interest to get a few of my book club members together to watch her movies. The book was fun, but also dealt with real life issues everyone faces at some point in their life which made it relatable. Maine is also one of my favorite places, so that was a bonus for me!! Great book!"

— RT Book Reviews“Consume with a bowl of popcorn and plenty of hankies.”
— Publishers Weekly“Likable characters and a happy ending will appeal to those who are looking for a light, uplifting read.”
— Booklist“A heartwarming, spirit-lifting read.”
— Kirkus Reviews" A nice "fluff read" to escape to Boothbay Harbor and Camden, Maine....a place I really enjoy visiting. "
— Deanna, 2/12/2014" This is a story that interwines the lives of many.....but all revolve around their weekly movie night at the family's bed and breakfast for a woman's last month on earth. Touching story but not enough depth. Okay! "
— Susan, 2/8/2014" Pretty standard chick-lit. Written from the point of view of 3 mostly one-dimensional women who (spoiler if you've never read chick-lit) find love. "
— Lauren, 2/5/2014" A decent vacation read. By no means a great book, but it kept me interested and it was very light reading. Predictable and unrealistic, but entertaining. "
— Hannah, 1/30/2014" This is a fun summer beach book. "
— Cathy, 1/10/2014" I was excited to read this book as I love Meryl Streep movies and thought the premise sounded interesting, but the book moved really slow for me. If you're in the mood for a book about family ties you may like it. Sadly, the characters were too whiny for me to relate too. Not bad, just not my fave. "
— Jess, 12/13/2013" Moving... beautiful.... It made me laugh, cry, and think. What more can you ask from a book? Truly enjoyable from beginning to end. "
— Kristin, 11/26/2013" This book was the perfect beach book. I got it as a gift in July and started reading it at the beach. The characters were interesting enough even if the plot plodded a little at times. I wouldn't exactly call the book light since one of the characters is dealing with some serious issues. "
— Melissa, 11/23/2013" I really liked this book. Such an interesting look into family dynamics, past mistakes and healing those relationships. "
— Chris, 11/20/2013" This book will keep you on the edge of your seat right until the end. One of the best books I've read in a long, long time. Great for a book club. Such wonderful detail and you feel you are right there with this family. Highly recommended :) "
— Pat, 11/18/2013" A great "beach" read. The characters were well developed and I could feel their growth through the book. "
— Marilyn, 11/15/2013" A great title and enjoyable read. Sat down last week and read it in one day. It started s..l..o..w..l..y and seemed stereotypical. Stick with it and you'll enjoy watching the characters grow and become people you actually care about. "
— Sarah, 9/15/2013" I love the way this book is written. I like how the story brings the family together in ways you do not expect. I enjoyed the characters journeys. "
— Valerie, 9/4/2013" Some entertaining light summer reading......besided, I love Meryl Streep! "
— Ellie, 7/1/2013" Very light fun book that takes place in Maine. If you like family relationships and have seen the six or so movies of Meryl you will enjoy this. "
— Carol, 1/10/2013" mostly light reading but pretty good "
Meryl Streep. "
— Esmee, 11/14/2012" This book is getting better with each page. Slow start, but it reminds you that you should treasure your loved ones: from yesterday, today, till tomorrow. Someone should make this a film too?! "
— Priya, 10/12/2012" Enjoyable, light read. I love Meryl Streep, so it was fun to remember some of her movies. Very predictable, pleasant story. "
— Susan, 9/7/2012" This was a great summer read - it made me laugh and cry and what else can you expect for summer!! It's a story about a family of women that come back together to help take care of their sick aunt and the story of each of their lives. I would highly recommend it for someone who just wants to escape. "
— Sandy, 8/6/2012" This is one of those books on the lines of Joy Luck club for me. And every now and then I need something besides a mystery or romance to really make me think and reconnect with myself. This is that kind of book. I enjoyed this one. It has movie potential and yes Meryl should play Lolly. "
— Shavawna, 7/22/2012" Cute book feel good. Like the idea of movie night. "
