When Katie answers the call of duty, she awakens the call of her heart.
Katie Russell loves working as a telephone operator in Mercy Falls, California. But since childhood she has been expected to marry well. Her family presses for an engagement to wealthy bachelor Bartholomew Foster and though he doesn't stir her heart, their engagement promises a secure financial future.
Working the phone lines one evening, Katie overhears a chilling exchange between her friend Eliza and a familiar male voice. Katie soon learns that Eliza has disappeared, and the crime may be linked to another investigation by handsome new lighthouse keeper, Will Jesperson. Katie and Will soon form an alliance. An alliance that slowly blossoms into something more.
Despite the danger surrounding her, Katie is powerfully drawn to Will. But she is not at liberty to marry for love. And though society forbids their growing affection, Katie can't help but notice Will's sense of peace. It's a peace that rests on his trust in God—a trust that Katie has never had to depend on, with her future so clearly mapped out before her.
But the more Katie uncovers of the mystery, the more she discovers about herself, her past, and the brilliant future that could be hers if only she has the courage to trust in God and follow where her heart so fearlessly leads.

"I really liked this book, as I liked the first in this series. There's just a bit of intrigue/mystery mixed in with the romance, but not too much. The only thing so far that I haven't liked about this series is that the characters from the first book were hardly mentioned in this second book ... the one character who makes a relatively "major" appearance in this book only appeared at the end of book one. I would have liked to have gotten more of a glimpse of what the main characters from book one were up to now that they are married."

" Excellent read. I enjoyed it just as much (if not more) as the first book, The Lightkeeper's Daughter. "
— Cari, 2/7/2014" I really enjoyed this book. I could easily picture the town and the people. I love how the author made it all come to life. Katie is a good detective as she tried to solve the mystery with a few twists and turns along the way. "

— Joy, 11/19/2013" I give this book 2 stars even though I enjoyed the plot and had fun reading it. There were just too many blatant holes and weak places in the plot to give it more than 2 stars. Still, I will read book 3 in the series. "

— Lindsey, 7/12/2012" This was my favorite of the threesome. The plot kept me intrigued throughout the book, and I really enjoyed these characters. They seemed a little more developed in this one than the other two, and I identified with Katie better than Addie and Olivia. "
— Emily, 4/30/2012" Although I loved the cover (isn't it gorgeous!), I was kind of disappointed with this book. It wasn't as good as the first one. I can't really say why because I liked both Katie and Will. But the story just didn't seem be as well written or something. I don't know. Still good, but not great. "
— Anne, 4/22/2012" I finally got through this book. Not sure why it took me so long, it just seemed to go on forever. Hopefully the next one will be more entertaining. "

— Emyrose8, 12/2/2011" Not my usual fare, but I loved it. I really like Colleen Coble and these books just seal the deal. "
— Kahri, 9/22/2011" This is a Christian mystery/romance. I thought the plot was fast-paced and a lot of fun. The flow wasn't as smooth as it could have been, though, so I found myself being pulled out of the story occasionally by unrealistic moments (in dialogue or characterization). Overall, it was pretty good. "

— Kristen, 6/20/2011" Didn't like it. Thought I'd give this author one more chance, but her stories are too long and dragged out. "
