" I loved The Kind of Friends We Used to Be! Kate and Marylin's friendship has changed; they acknowledge that and miss the younger friendship-of-convenience that kids tend to have, but they still value one another and their shared history. Kate at one point tells Marylin, "I'm good the way I am," and while she does mean that, she is also trying on a new way. Meanwhile Marylin is starting to figure out that she can consult herself about things like whether to go out with a particular boy; it doesn't have to be about what anyone else is going to think. The ending was pure transcendent grace. "
