Listener Opinions

" 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. Grace is written well, and her story is enjoyable. The reason that I give it only 3.5 stars, is that I didn't think the narrative gave sufficient evidence to the ending. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Michael Fitzgerald | 1/28/2014

" Started off really well with a very interesting premise and a clever protagonist, but then descended into stupidity. The historical aspects of the book made it less realistic, not more. "

" Lovely! Scandalous!! Looking forward to reading another Anna Davis book! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Vaneza Vasquez | 1/23/2014

" i like the way it was written and the era it was written in the 1920's was an intresting time and it is acurate about the things going on at the time. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Deb | 1/21/2014

" An OK read about Grace Rutherford who lives the life of a flapper in London in the 20s. When she's not searching for fun and love, she's a working girl for an advertising agency and also writes a newspaper column under a pseudonym... "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Emily Easter | 1/20/2014

" Loved the setting - London in the 1920's (I'm a sucker for both)... I just couldn't decide throughout this novel if the main character was likable or not... sometimes she was, sometimes not. The best parts for me were the flashback parts and the column entries. All in all a good beach read. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Shaheen | 12/31/2013

    " A quick read, set in the 1920's. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Alison | 12/23/2013

" Not awful, not great. I got confused with some of the characters and it took me a long time to finish this-I didn't have much interest in it I guess. A shame. It had the makings of a good story but it fell flat. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Beth Pratt | 11/27/2013

" I picked this novel at random from the shelf of new fiction at the library because it looked like a good, soapy read, and I was not disappointed. It felt a bit like reading a very stylish soap opera. I will definitely check out some of this author's other work. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Gillian Anzivino | 10/3/2013

" I have just started this book. So far the relationships are interestingly intertwined and it seems to be a fast read. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Sjcondon | 9/28/2013

" I wasnt to impressed with this book, but I think It had more to do with me wrapping my head around the different time period. I am going to re read this one after Im am thru with the ones Im reading now. It seems like a really good one, I just cant get into that era right now! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Danielle Bojorquez | 4/2/2013

" I stopped reading this book when the main character started sleeping with her sister's husband. Please, show a little self-respect and self-restraint! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Robin Nicholas | 12/17/2012

" Definitely a light read....but as far as light reads go, it was pretty good. Not much to say about it. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Jackie | 10/9/2012

" One of the worst books I've ever read. Plot was never really developed in a compelling way. Characters were flat unless you like gin fizz. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Nancy | 6/23/2012

" I think I would characterize this as Brit Chick Lit. I had just finished a boox filled with pain and suffering and I wanted to read something lighter. The Jewel Box fit the bill. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Molly | 4/28/2012

" In all honesty I wish I could give this book a 3.5. It is an excellent book, great style and word choice, but it was just not my cup of tea. If you enjoy a book with a witty heroine and love affairs with some suspense, Anna Davis is the gal for you. Enjoy! "

" I enjoyed the historical setting for this novel. It was set in the 1920s. Diamond Sharp's column at the beginning of each chapter was also a treat. Other than that, the rest of the novel is uninspired and cliched. "
