Publisher Description

Returning to her hometown after the funeral of her parents, writer Erica Falck finds a community on the brink of tragedy. The death of her childhood friend, Alex, is just the beginning. Her wrists slashed, her body frozen in an ice cold bath, it seems that she has taken her own life. Erica conceives a memoir about the beautiful but remote Alex, one that will answer questions about their lost friendship.

While her interest grows to an obsession, local detective Patrik Hedstrom is following his own suspicions about the case. But it is only when they start working together that the truth begins to emerge about the small town with a deeply disturbing past.

"As usual, she did not disappoint. Great character development and plot line. Slightly more predictable than her next book. Also, makes me thin that the town her books are set in must be the vortex of evil. Lots of bad people living there!"

" I tried very hard to finish this book, but it was impossible. Wasting another minute on this novel is silly when there are so many more books to read. The plot isn't bad, but the writing is. I've read some reviews that said the poor writing may be because of the translation, but I've read other Swedish novels that read just fine translated. "

" Thought I'd try one of the women Nordic crime writers. This was a good vacation read, left me guessing until close to the end, so success! Fun, not too gross, and development of characters in her family. I'll look for another of her books to find out what happens to her personally. "

" Easy to read, not really comparable to Stieg Larsson although that's what people seem to do with this series. I figured out the ending half way through but enjoyed watching the main characters do the same. "
