"Blue Jay, the pirate captain has a fondness for eggs. When his latest treasured egg hatches, and produces a rather large bird, the fun has just begun. Wonderfully descriptive language helps readers visualize this avian pirate adventure."

" I really liked the premise of this book (Blue Jay pirate) and the illustrations. But that's just about it. The story was surprisingly dull, and it's a bit violent--it features numerous battles and deaths. The story themes of oppression and revolution did not seem age appropriate (at least for my six year old). "

" A middle grade fiction novel detailing the adventures of Blue Jay the Pirate, who hauls in a mysterious egg that hatches into a gosling named Gabriel, ultimately his crew into battle with nefarious crows. Takes a while to get going, but delivers an enjoyable adventure story once it does. "
