Can natural enemies make peace? Actually…can they fall in love?
The Heart Mender is a story of life, loss, and reconciliation, reminding us of the power of forgiveness and the universal healing experience of letting go.
In his classic storytelling style, New York Times best-selling author Andy Andrews delivers an adventure set sharply against the warm waters and white sands of the Gulf of Mexico in WWII America.
Saddened and unable to abandon her resentment toward the Nazi war machine that took her husband’s life, the young and attractive Helen Mason is living a bitter, lonely existence. Betrayed and left for dead, German U-boat officer Lt. Josef Landermann washes ashore in a sleepy town along the northern gulf coast, looking to Helen for survival.

"I loved this book so much I bought it - and I don't buy a lot of books. This was a fantastic story based on true events. I enjoyed learning more about US history while this story unveiled itself. Highly recommended and one of the better stories I've read in a while. It was fairly short and I could have used a little more depth. Already having to create dialoge, I think Andrews tried to keep with the original story - so while I wanted more I felt like he was maybe just trying to keep it true."

" Started out reading this in order to be of assistance to my daughter as she read it as an assignment for her 8th grade reading. I was blown away...I had never heard about the presence of Nazi subs in the Gulf of Mexico. Great story, great message. Good reading! "

— Teela, 7/31/2013" Nice story. I didn't like it as much as THE NOTICER because it was a fiction book with character building. The story was good but predictable. I was interested in the history of the U boats. This is a part of history I have never heard about except in historical fiction. "
— Deb, 7/16/2013" I wouldn't recommend this one, just because of one scene of violence "
— Launna, 6/13/2013" Great story, but a little slow in the beginning. "

— Kris, 5/3/2013" I did enjoy this book, though not as much as "The Noticer". Though about forgiveness, I was going through something at the time dealing with forgiveness that was much more involved. Maybe had I been in a different place emotionally, I would have enjoyed it more. "
— Kimberly, 3/9/2013" Slow start. But great finish. Historical! Always love a good Nazi spy novel. "
— Jen, 2/13/2013" Great quick read about forgiveness. I never knew that German submarines came so close to US soil. "
