So here’s the plan… Kill the demon.… Steal the treasure.… Retire to a life of luxury!
It sounds easy when put like that. Most unfortunately for warrior-priest Egil and sneak thief Nix, however, when the demon they kill turns out to have worshippers in high places, retirement is not an option.
A wonderfully fast-paced fantasy adventure redolent of the classic tales of swords and sorcery, from New York Times bestselling author, Paul S. Kemp.
“This rollicking tale hooked me from the get-go. Egil and Nix might not be the safest guys to go adventuring with, but they’re sure good company.” —Ed Greenwood, creator of Forgotten Realms

"Definitely a fun story, and I look forward to seeing longer installments in the series. only reason this didn't get five stars was because it seemed too quick and a little rushed, but as its a stand alone novel introducing new chars in a new world, that's pretty understandable. I look forward to learning more about the magic system and lore in future installments!"

" A little short. Fun. Kinda Fafhrd and Grey Mouser type thing. A good start to what could be a long series. I liked it but it's not gonna rock the bedrocks of low fantasy or anything. Worth a spin. "
— Noah, 1/26/2014" Will review when released, looking forward to this one. "
— Darrell, 1/16/2014" This is why i am an avid reader of fantasy. "
— Gerald, 12/31/2013" Fabulous, straight forward adventure story. Perhaps a little predictable, but funny, heartwarming characters you wanted to get to know better quiped and quirked their way through a bad set of situations. So much of it reminded me of some of the fabulous hours spent around a game table. I do believe I will be looking for more from Mr. Kemp, 4 our of five. "
— April, 12/30/2013" Pretty so so compared to other Kemp offerings. Fafhrd and Gray Mouser far superior; this series gets compared to Leiber in a number of venues.Dialog between characters seemed forced and mixed. There were moments the book grabbed me, but few and far between. "
— SpyNavy, 12/27/2013" a very good sword and sorcery. I look forward to more tales of Egil and Nix. "
— Ian, 12/24/2013" This is the definition of bad fantasy "
— Sean, 12/8/2013" Great romping sword & sorcery adventure with memorable characters! Yearning for more of the backstory of Egil and Nix. I have a feeling that with Kemp's Hellish obsessions that we might get a few more fiends out of future yarns along with a couple of more magical gewgaws. "
— Doug, 12/3/2013" An awesome read! I highly recommend to all fantasy fans. Egil and Nix are great characters and I can wait to read more of their adventures! "
— Bryan, 10/20/2013" I got an ARC of this book and let me tell you... it's absolutely wonderful old school sword and sorcery!!! Definitely read this one "
— Michael, 10/15/2013" This was a wild and fun read. Loved Nix and Egil! Lots of action and adventuring with dangerous monsters and dark magic. Loved it!! "
— Ann, 9/6/2013" loved this book! I became so invested in these characters. the dialog and action was amazing. unpredictable and exciting. everything I want in a fantasy novel. I am already eagerly awaiting the next tale of Egil and Nix and ive convinced my dad he also has to read it. "
— Stephanie, 7/1/2013" Great read! Loved it and will look for more by Kemp. "
— John, 4/5/2013" This is one of those books that you can not put down. It has the same feel as Simon R. Green's Hawk and Fisher, and Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. A character partnership that flows like long time friends. I can not wait for their next adventure. "
— Andrew, 3/22/2013" This tale reminded me of a number of Fafhrd and Gray Mouser adventures that Leiber wrote, but with more graphic details and twists that makes it more than a clone. Enjoy if you care for this type of tales. "
— Ron, 11/11/2012" Good old-fashioned sword and sorcery. Reminds me a lot of Fritz Leiber's work, and was a very pleasant read. Can't wait for the author to give us more! :) "
— Slmstanley, 9/21/2012" Wow. Brutal and crude, but an exciting sword and sorcery tale, with an extremely rough edge to it. Not my normal thing, but I thought I'd give something new a chance - kinda fun to see an author I know only from having written Star Wars novels operate in his own world. "
— Kai, 9/9/2012" ended too soon.. can't wait for the next egil and nix book. i've yet to be disappointed with paul's writing. "
