Cold-blooded murder just isn’t Thomas Lang’s cup of tea. Offered a bundle to assassinate an American industrialist, he opts to warn the intended victim instead—a good deed that soon takes a bad turn. Quicker than he can down a shot of his favorite whiskey, Lang is bashing heads with a Buddha statue, matching wits with evil billionaires, and putting his life (among other things) in the hands of a bevy of femme fatales.
Up against rogue CIA agents, wannabe terrorists, and an arms dealer looking to make a high-tech killing, Lang’s out to save the leggy lady he has come to love . . . and prevent an international bloodbath to boot.

"I never would have known this book existed had not someone interviewing at my company mentioned it. It is laugh-out-loud funny at times due to word play and the character's personality, while still containing a rather serious plot and sometimes graphic murder. Having watched A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie, as well as Jeeves and Wooster on DVD, I can definately see Laurie's comedic talents at work in this book. If only he'd write more ... As a warning, the language is a little rough at times, and heads do explode at one point, so if you're not a normal reader of such books, you may not enjoy it as much as I did. (I'd never give it to my mother, for instance, even though she'd like the funny bits.)"

" It amazes me that this book was written 14 years ago, well before FOX dreamed of Gregory House, yet the main character Lang is as much like House as even House is like House. If you make House an ex-military man caught in the middle of a "24" episode spliced with "Wag the Dog" vignettes, you'd have the screenplay for this book. Rather enjoyable, rather witty at times but the end was tied with a string too perfectly. The Bad Guys get it, the Good Guys win, the Lovers are reunited, the Scandal exposed and the Hero vindicated. All is well in Denmark. Which was, well, a trifle disappointing. "
— Jac, 2/19/2014" I enjoyed this, easy to read, very funny with an engaging storyline. Even better, my internal narrator had Hugh Laurie's voice throughout the whole book :) "
— Em, 2/13/2014" Fast-paced and really clever storyline with witty dialogue. Hugh Laurie needs to write more! "
— Christina, 1/29/2014" What a fun book this is. Reminded me of Gumshoe by Neville Smith which I read back in the '70s and which set me on the road to Raymond Chandler and all those wonderful mystery writers who write slyly funny books. Well done Mr Laurie. Wish you would write another. "
— Joan, 1/29/2014" Really, 3.5, but why not just give it 4? It was more interesting that stupid Wuthering stupid Heights. "
— Meave, 1/28/2014" Entertaining spy/thriller by Hugh Laurie (yes, that Hugh Laurie). The humor is very dry and British, but as it happens, so is the author. "
— stormhawk, 1/24/2014" Hugh Laurie speaks humbly, but knows how to write. This is an enjoyable book that loses itself without becoming boring. Like many things, it could use a better middle, but it's great. "
— Alexander, 1/12/2014" Yes... *that* Hugh Laurie. "
— David, 1/8/2014" Very funny. Hope there are more stories coming in the future. "
— Mary, 11/22/2013" Such a fun read by Hugh Laurie! "
— Gene, 11/21/2013" Picked this up at a friend's house and zipped through it in a weekend. An easy, fun read even if you can't banish from your mind the idea of Dr. House as the narrator. "
— Joanne, 11/11/2013" It had some funny parts. "
— Arden303, 9/22/2013" This book was my english saving grace... the only book in english my italian roommate had when i lived in Bologna. Licia was obsessed with House. "
— LeeLee, 8/28/2013" It's funny and a quick read. What's not to like? "
— Elisha, 7/14/2013" Very interesting and great humor throughout. "
— Suzanne, 6/2/2013" Very funny, tongue-in-cheek Brit humor. Good reading; satisfying plot and characters. "
— Doti, 2/24/2013" Hugh Laurie is a pretty funny guy! He has an ability to create phrasing I've never seen before. Pretty entertaining. It's hard not to picture The main character as "House". "
— Steve, 1/24/2013" This man is a genious in every media. Fast paced, witty, dry, toungue in cheek, laugh out loud funny. "
— Ajacks, 1/17/2013" A good read--good story, believable characters, sly wit that doesn't get in the way of the telling. "
— Doug, 11/24/2012" I could not stop laughing "
— Katie, 10/19/2012" Tons of fun. If you like spy novels and dry humor and don't mind seeing the genre mocked up and down, read it. Now. "
