Join the children Tangle and Mossy as they embark on a journey of faith, spiritual maturity and sanctification. Richly imaginative and sparkling with mythic qualities, this story communicates the joy of entering into faith as a child, traveling through life with a loving companion, and longing for the heavenly country.
Poignant and beautifully written, The Golden Key will nourish both faith and imagination in the listener. C.S. Lewis delighted in the cleansing ability of reading George MacDonald, and The Golden Key certainly represents that quality.

"One of those books that underpins a whole genre - this was a book that influenced C S Lewis as a teenager and set him on his path of fantasy writing. It's somewhat Victorian in language and thought, but still, quite something. " — Jenny (4 out of 5 stars)

" The gifts of the Child Christ is an amazing picture of of how death brings life... "
" The Golden Key is a wonderful story. It makes your heart hurt and your stomach feel like your feet are leaving the ground. The others in this collection are less impressive, but still worth reading. "
" I also read this in grade seven and loved it. The story "The Golden Key" really impressed me because it was so creative and like nothing I'd ever read. "
" Dark fairy tales. This is what precedes Lewis, Tolkein, and even Madeleine L'Engle. "
George MacDonald (1824–1905), Scottish children’s author and novelist, was educated at Aberdeen University before training as a Congregational minister. Finding his own individualistic views unacceptable to his parish, he gradually turned to literature. He published over fifty volumes of fiction, verse, children’s stories, and sermons but is remembered chiefly for his fairy stories, including The Princess and the Goblin (1872) and its sequel The Princess and Curdie (1873).
