About Ian Coombe

Ian Coombe was born in Sydney, Australia, and joined the Army immediately following school. After an enjoyable and rewarding time as an officer in Artillery and training recruits and officer cadets, he was posted to Army headquarters and was responsible for Army’s software. It was here that Ian first worked on WIKID POWER decision-making whilst instigating Army’s first information management policy and plans manual. During the same time, he also instigated Army’s Group Decision Support System and in essence became an internal adviser, using it to facilitate meetings to develop budgets, restructures, plans, and other decisions, as well as training others to use it. After twenty years in the Army, Ian retired to set up his own consulting firm in Canberra and was sought out to continue his decision facilitation fascination. Ian moved to Brisbane and continued advising businesses and CEOs whilst also continuing volunteer work in the nonprofit sector. He has been honored as Community Leader of the Year for South East Queensland in the Australian Leadership Excellence Awards (ALEAs). He has settled with his partner and since all the children are now adults, Ian spends his time researching, authoring, speaking, advising, and conducting workshops on decision making—as well as helping social enterprises and charities, and doing household chores.
