Longevity drugs have made it possible for people to live far beyond normal expectations, and children are now an unnecessary commodity. Anna is a surplus, one of the children whose parents were selfish enough to create her and who now must suffer penance for their indulgence. But when a new surplus shows up at Anna's compound, Anna is torn between everything she has been taught and everything she hoped might one day come true.

Gemma Malley's debut won praise for its powerful message and vision of a frightening future that seems all too near. Download and start listening now!

" I did not hate this book. I may even read the next book. "

" I absolutely loved this book. It is written half in diary form and the other half by third person narration. It is the future where people no longer die - they take Longetivity pills and live for many lifetimes. The only catch is you cannot have any children. If you do you opt out of the program and you will die. If you do have children they become what is called a Surplus and put in group homes where they must work as servants to pay back the crime of "being born". It is spellbinding from the first page. "

" I think this was the first dystopia book I read. It was amazing/chilling/heart-rending, and over all really, really good. "

" I'm on the fence with this dystopian YA novel. It's not brilliant, but not bad either "
