"I hope Carrie Bebris doesn't limit her Mr. and Mrs. Darcy mysteries to Austen's six novels, which would mean this is the last book of the series. While some of the liberties she took with Persuasion were a little far-fetched (like the whole scenario with Mrs. Smith), it stayed true to the key characters and reinforced the idea that a high birth in Regency England does not equal a high sense of morality. I would like to see more of the Darcys and their connections as Bebris has established, and there should be fuel for more with the Darcys planning a trip throughout Europe."

Quotes

  • “Bebris cleverly entwines the characters from Persuasion in the sixth of her based on Jane Austen’s beloved novels. The mystery, written in Austen’s style, conceals many suspects in a cloak of respectability.”

    — Kirkus Reviews
  • “Lively … Janeites will delight in the author’s clever reintroduction of Austen’s characters, the charm of Georgiana’s budding love life, and the accurate and appealing portrait of Regency ships and sailors.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • “Delightful … another winning yarn from Bebris with plenty of exciting twists and turns to keep readers guessing.”

    — Booklist
  • “A thoroughly absorbing tale ... Quite apart from coming up with the goods again as far as a page-turning plot is concerned, Bebris has painted a wonderfully detailed portrait of early 19th-century Lyme Regis. Her research is impeccable.”

" I liked it. It's a mystery mash-up of characters from Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, and it was fun to see with in what disdain the Darcy's held Sir Walter Elliot. The author manages to weave a good mystery without changing the essential characters of the original books, though she does make Darcy a bit more helpful than he is portrayed in Pride and Prejudice. Now I'm starting a second of these books; we'll see how that goes. "

" I don't really remember the first three books of the series that well, but I liked this volume as well as I liked any of them, perhaps a bit more. Some of the elements of the plot are a bit much, but I felt that Bebris did a good job of portraying the characters in a way that does not contradict their characters in Austen's novel. It was a quick and enjoyable read. "

" Love this series! This one had Mr. and Mrs. Darcy visiting one of Austen's coolest settings-- that of "Persuasion." Very enjoyable, and a good "cozy mystery" type read. "

" The sixth book in the Mr and Mrs. Darcy Mysteries. Each book in the series has characters from each of Jane Austen's novels. Mostly the main characters sometimes lesser characters. "

" I don't usually like Austen takeoffs, but this was well done, much in her style (PD James, I'm looking at you) and included characters from both Pride & Prejudice as well as Persuasion. Now I want to read the rest in the series. "

" Lovely continuation of her story in Jane Austen Made Me Do It: Original Stories Inspired by Literature's Most Astute Observer of the Human Heart but this was more Georgiana's story in some ways...echoes of Pamela Aidan's Georgiana... "
