F. Scott Fitzgerald makes antebellum Baltimore his setting for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a fantastical tale with some Poe-like overtones about a baby born at age seventy who then lives life in reverse, his hair turning “in the dozen years of his life from white to iron-gray, the network of wrinkles on his face becoming less pronounced.” What ramifications that creates for Benjamin’s relationship with his father first and then later with his wife and his own son makes for some fantastical situations.

"Even though I wasn't that thrilled with The Great Gatsby, I did enjoy this collection of stories. Plenty of biting humor and wit; wicked, understated commentary, and lots of the "feel" of the time period, which is what I found a bit lacking in "Gatsby"."

" I now have no interest in seeing the film "...Benjamin Button" because I know it isn't going to be as cute or funny or clever as this story (and will probably be very schmaltzy). The other stories in the book are just as fantastic. "
— Morgan, 2/20/2014" I was intrigued by the movie. This is a collection of short stories. I read the Benjamin Button story which was of course, quite different from the movie and rather odd. i plan to read some of the other stories. "
— Kimberly, 2/18/2014" Ever since reading "Tender is the Night" when I was in lower school, I have loved F. Scott Fitzgerald. "Paradise Lost" and "The Beautiful and Damned" just added to that love, though "The Great Gatsby" (and having to read it multiple times for multiple English classes) slightly dimmed it. I found "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" interesting, but perhaps not as much so as I thought it would be. I enjoyed "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" ever so much more--great story! "
— Sarah, 2/17/2014" The stories in this collection are more fantastical than the novels of Fitzgerald's I've read, and I missed his subtle, glimmering descriptions of the upper classes. The title story is ripe with all kinds of opportunity for comparing nature to experience in determining a person's true age, but it doesn't do much with the idea. The last story, "O Russet Witch!" is probably the most Fitzgeraldian and my favorite. In between, there's some crazy stuff about mountain-sized diamonds, kidnapped pilots and a murky chase through some place in England. "
— Cheryl, 2/17/2014" The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is getting so much buzz, I decided to read this book of short stories before the movie comes out. "
— Kim, 2/13/2014" This story was shorter than I expected it to be. I can't wait to see the movie adaptation. "
— Stacy, 2/8/2014" i'm kind of baffled how far off the movie is from this. seeing the movie in theaters, i just finished the short story - which i liked more - and was really shocked at how little david fincher / whoever wrote the screenplay chose to include. motivations and relationships and everything are so different that it really isn't the same thing. "
— Joey, 1/25/2014" I only read THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, but I have to say that I absolutely love it. It was only 25 pages but it was filled with humor and heart stretching moments. It was also a very interesting tale and the writing was beautiful. Loved it! "
— 99bookreviewer, 1/18/2014" For once, the movie was better than the book. "
— Barbara, 1/17/2014" ZzZzZzZZzZ Soo Boaring "
— DalalK., 12/19/2013" There were a few good stories in here but in general this felt like a long hard slog. Fitzgerald is definitely better in long form. "
— Justin, 12/5/2013" His short stories are hit or miss.. and all of the female characters are helpless things who need to be rescued. "
— Nora, 11/4/2013" WONDERFUL. Some stories better than others, but overall glorious. The Offshore Pirate and The Diamond as Big as the Ritz are the most memorable to me! "
— Susan, 9/24/2013" Apart from Curious Case, other stories are average... "
— Crotijak, 8/29/2013" These short stories (including the title story) fall into the category of Fitzgerald juvenilia. Entertaining if you like Fitzgerald but falls far short of his great novels. "
— Lynda, 7/31/2013" Can u tell that I like F. Scott Fitzgerald? "
— Lbethsharp, 5/21/2013" This was a 5 star book up until the last several stories which seemed completely out of place. Definitely an excellent read. "
— Shawn, 5/8/2013" It is a collection of Fitzerald's short story and I like Benjamin Button the best. As the title suggests, it is really curious. The original story is much much better than the movie adaptation. "
— Wsclai, 4/16/2013" A handful of outstanding short stories in this collection. "
— Lyn, 2/6/2013" I enjoyed 5 of the offered stories: The Camel's Back, May Day, Porcelain and Pink, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and "O Russet Witch! May Day and "O Russet Witch! proved to be my personal favorites. They were certainly worth reading. "
— Devlin, 12/1/2012" Some stories quite good; others quite strange. There are two sarcastic, slapstick plays. A little weird. "
— Avary, 10/16/2012" Bought this after I read "The Great Gatsby". Some of the stories feel similar to others and others are fairly boring, overall though most are good for a brief, low-key read. "
