"Wow! This was a book club read that I was considering not reading as it sounded waaaaaay too depressing. But while the subject is heavy - family moves to a new state, son is killed by an intruder, remaining family barely holds on after the tragedy - the treatment is wonderful. It's a meditation on revenge, secrets, hope and forgiveness that left me feeling fully satisfied. It shows how forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting. Secrets can be the most toxic thing there is. Life can become meaningful again when you put aside the need for revenge. Very very, very highly recommended."
