Time and Audubon magazines in 20oo named him one of the 100 Leading Environmentalists of the Century. He is an influential biologist who has been called “Darwin’s natural heir” or “The Darwin of the 21st century.” He has also been called the “father of sociobiology” and the “father of biodiversity.” His biological specialty is myrmecology, the study of ants, on which he has been called a world expert.
