" I've read the whole Mallory series ... she's one of my favorite detectives. This was a great one, can't wait for another. "

" Everytime there was a behind the scenes deal between Riker and the other police, or Mallory and one of her dad's friends, I really never had any idea what had happened. Completely befuddled. In defense of the author, I didn't really try all that hard to figure it out ... but then again, the author should have made me care. I found myself just rolling my eyes. The treatment of bullying and adult complicity was really well done I thought. I very much liked Riker - Mallory, I never really understood. And who dunnit was pretty implausible to me considering the way they had been portrayed .... Overall, meh. "

" This was a good ole fashioned murder mystery with murders so outrageously done, I had to keep reading. "

" In the interests of full disclosure, I admit that Carol O'Connell's Mallory books are far and away my favorite mystery series. But there's a danger in growing to love a particular cast of characters: with each new book, I fear, "Can she do it? Can she write another first-rate Mallory book, as complex and rewarding as the last?" I was especially nervous after her non-Mallory hiatus with Bone by Bone , but I should have known better. O'Connell NEVER disappoints. If anything, her books keep getting better, because her characters are not the recycled caricatures that plague most series books. They grow. They fail. They struggle. We learn more, yet never too much--and never enough. If you've never read a Carol O'Connell book, do NOT start with this one. Treat yourself, and go back to the beginning (Mallory's Oracle), and read every one of them. THEN read this one. You will NOT be disappointed. "
