One of the most powerful and triumphant stories ever told about a proud and admirable dog
The Call of the Wild, written in 1903, brought Jack London to the world's attention. It is the story of Buck, part St. Bernard and part Scotch shepherd dog, who shows the strengths of both breeds when he is stolen and sold off as a sled dog in the Yukon during the gold rush. It is a heartfelt story that appeals to both children and adults.

"London, much like Kipling, does an excellent job of imagining what must go through an animal's head as they interact with us humans. We are an odd bunch to them, and he does good in trying to look at life through a different perspective. So often we are taken into the thought process of people, and I really enjoy when we are allowed to see into an animal's perspective."
— J.D. (4 out of 5 stars)
" A book I had to read school that I enjoyed. While I am not one to read about animals as the main character often, this is one I'd recommend for the people who normally do. It shows the strength of this dog/wolf (for the sake of argument I'm saying dog). It shows how he adjusts through out his life. "
— Brittany, 2/20/2014" I love this book. You root for White Fang through the entire book and can't help but be happy he finds his happiness in the end. "
— Sashalai, 2/20/2014" I have always loved Jack London's style - easy to read and very visual. Great book. One of my favorite authors. "
— Craig, 2/17/2014" I read this when I was a kid. Great story, I loved it at a time when i hated reading. However, I wonder if it will be just as good to read as an adult. Easy read "
— Jim, 2/16/2014" A really intense story. a book that won't let go off your hands. "
— Sooyong, 2/14/2014" Aptly named, since after reading it I wanted to go running with wolves in the snowy wilderness of northern Canada. Great read. "
— Bernard, 2/4/2014" Unique story about the dog leader. "
— Sarah, 2/4/2014" I loved this book when I was younger. As an animal lover (especially dogs!) I love when animals are the main characters of the story. Jack London did a great job of going into the mind of Buck and his transition from a housepet to a strong, rough, brave wild dog. "
— Hannah, 2/3/2014" It was constanley suspensful. You need to read this book about what a dog would do for "the love of a man". "

— Oded, 1/25/2014" really like his stories and style of writing "
— Umair, 1/25/2014" The Call of the Wild is an adveturious tale. It is very interesting and emotional. I wouldn't recomend this to this to children in elementary school due to violence in the book. I thought it was quite raw myself and i'm in highschool. I do recomend this to high school students. "
— Olivia, 1/24/2014" It's easy to see why this is a classic. Reading Call of the Wild I couldn't help thinking about my own dog and her behaviour patterns. "

— William, 1/20/2014" A SUMMER READING WHICH BROUGHT BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES AND A MARVELLOUS SENSATION OF NATURAL FREEDOM TO MY SOUL! "
— Dani, 1/19/2014" The best thing I can say about this book is that it was short. If London wrote about women like he wrote about dogs in this book you'd find his books in the erotic books section. "
— David, 1/19/2014" Read this book first in grade school and then again as an adult. "
— Cynthia, 1/17/2014" Read for my grade 10 English class. "

— Towens23, 1/17/2014" book that introduced me to reading and will always hold a special place in my heart "
— James, 1/15/2014" A fun book about a dog. Touching "
— Anita, 1/15/2014" At my parents house, there is a set of Jack London books and short stories that sits on the shelf in our living room. I have tender memories of those books, because when I was a little girl my Daddy would read them to me. White Fang and The Call of the Wild were my favorites. "
— Amy, 1/9/2014" I never had to read this while in school so I had no idea what to expect. My daughter gave it to me a few weeks ago to read so I couldn't let her down. How interesting that this book was told from the point of view of a dog! I didn't realize it was told from his perspective. What a great story of knowing where you come from and finding your true calling. "
— Jennifer, 1/9/2014" I said, BRR! It's cold in here. It must be something in the atmosphere. "
— Natasha, 1/8/2014" considering it was published in 1903, call of the wild was an interesting story; although more suited for the male reader. "
— Tonya, 1/6/2014" Read this first as a child and reread recently to my son. I was surprised at how violent and heartbreaking the story is. "

— Robert, 11/15/2013" One of the many Jack London works I've read. I'll admit he probably isn't for everyone, but if you like realistic adventure, like I do, then you'll probable enjoy this. Simple people from a simpler time. "
— Robert, 11/14/2013" I only read The Call of the Wild, haven't read White Fang yet. Stories about animals are also at the top of my list and I think Jack London did an amazing job narrating. It is captivating how he uses words to paint the picture, you don't even need an imagination. "
— Danielle, 10/3/2013" Amazing! I felt so primal while reading this. "
— Jimmy, 8/22/2013" I had to read it as a summer honor's english assignment and couldn't really get into until i really started actually paying attention to what was going on. It was a really good book to read especially if you love dogs, and im excited i get to do some writing stuff with it. "
— Abbydean, 8/20/2013" I'm a science fiction fan, and as a science fiction fan I really enjoyed Call of the Wild and White Fang. There's something very alien about "The Wild" as Jack London describes it, and science fiction writers could learn a lot form his writing. "
— James, 8/1/2013" An enjoyable piece of speculative literature. "
— Danya, 6/16/2013" jack london is that kind of writer who wrote only on those things which he himself experienced, both of the stories in this book is based on his own experience... i really like th first stories "White Fang" but the second story didn't appeal me as the first one. "

— Karey, 11/2/2012" I didn't think I'd like it. I thought it would be terribly boring and a waste of time. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. "
— Gabe, 10/25/2012" Jack London's Call of the Wild is a piece of magnificent grandeur, a saga of the beauty and relentlessness of the Yukon wilderness. His exquisite prose was matched evenly by a fierce story of a domesticated dog 'Buck' as he learns to survive in a brutal sled team. "

— Rachel, 7/22/2012" London's stories all teach so many lessons while in the mystery of the story. To Build a Fire is a great short story. Man should always listen to those who are more experienced or be ready to pay the consequences! While Fang and Call of the Wild are classic favorites! "
— Martha, 6/19/2012" I was just 8 years old when I read this. My wonderful father gave it to me. First book he ever handed me. He said to me, "Here, boy. You might like this." — Lorraine, 2/2/2012" another of those books i somehow missed growing up. poignant. "

— Julia, 5/17/2011" A wonderful, quick read. I loved that it was written from the perspective of the dog, and while London clearly has an idealistic view of nature, I enjoyed it thoroughly. In fact, I enjoyed it because he painted nature in such a vibrant, idealistic way. "
