Jack’s best friend, Charlie, is in serious trouble, possessed by an ancient demon called the Scourge who plans to use Charlie to bring about its evil ends—which, unfortunately, involve the destruction of the entire universe.

Now Jack and the butt-kicking, sword-wielding Esme must contend with floating sharks, intelligent jelly, oversized centipedes, gladiator pits, and vomiting bats, all for the sake of saving Charlie from the Scourge.

And, hopefully, saving the universe from total and utter annihilation. Download and start listening now!

" There are so many quotes on the back of this book talking about how exciting it is and how fast-paced... and they're all lying. Except for the last fifty pages or so, which were pretty well-paced, the rest of the book was slow. I just recently finished this book, and I've been trying to read it since February. It was just too slow to hold my attention. And Jack the Hero wasn't at all what he was made out to be in the description. That blurb was one big piece of false advertising. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because I can't give it one and a half. "

" if u would like to read a book about a pain in the ass kid who has superpowers, no idea what is going on and a lil bid of dumb luck and a kid who is in no way remarkable at all and has little or no luck than this is the book for you, if u would rather not waist a few hrs of your life and be really angry that u just read a really stupid book because u thought the cover was cool than it is not "

" I read this, but... honestly... it was rather bad. The best parts were the demon characters. "

" I didnt like this book when I first started to read it but I had this Idea that it had to get better and towards the second half of the book it was really good. "

" One of the better reads this year. I found it to have a good balance between the story line, language and theme to where it was entertaining to an adult even though it is in the YA genre. Not that the YA genre means anything as many of my favorite reads come from there. I also like Jack as a character in the end especially when he gets existential on the situation. "

" THis book really creeped me out it was about a demon possesing a boy. Please is you love younger kids do not read this book!!! It gave me nightmares for several days, definatly a high school level book. "

" With regrets to my teen friend who recommended this book to me, I just didn't like it. I felt the characters were really one dimensional & their reactions were unrealistic. (In fantasy & sci-fi, I think you have to make people act even more realisticly/humanly because of the fantastic settings/plots.) I'm afraid I couldn't bring myself to finish the book. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Samantha Yu | 1/20/2014

" This book was really good because I like fiction books like these with demons and stuff like that "

" Very strange. The first part is very edgy and dark, but suddenly it turns very absurd and silly. A good read. Puking bats rule! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Dorcas | 1/15/2013

" Not entirely what I expected from an adventure story through Hell, but interesting. Certain bit characters step up to the main stage, surprising me from the usual hero story. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jacob | 7/5/2012

" Good but it was very anti-Christ. It was a good story, but sometimes it was like the author was trying to convince the reader that God wasn't real. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Caitlyn | 7/22/2011

" Not as cheesy as i thought it would be with the supernatural type storyline and it actually funny at times. i would read a sequel. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Allison Porter | 7/16/2011

" The plot was ok and the characters were good to but, sorry, the author is so bad at writing. He kept saying it went by in a flash and didn't go into detail so much. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Robin | 4/11/2011

" stteph - trying to go outside my comfort zone & read a ya fantasy now & again - this one? Mind blowing - it's got EVERYTHING! Including an awesome young strong female who...that's right saves the world! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Livilovesbooks | 4/9/2011

" Very, very good book. The only thing I didn't like was that the author plays the characters from many angles, and for me it was hard to discern what they were really feeling. I would not reccomend it if you are uncomfortable with dark ideas, or references to grim subjects. "
