Publisher Description

Jack’s best friend, Charlie, is in serious trouble, possessed by an ancient demon called the Scourge who plans to use Charlie to bring about its evil ends—which, unfortunately, involve the destruction of the entire universe. Now Jack and the butt-kicking, sword-wielding Esme must contend with floating sharks, intelligent jelly, oversized centipedes, gladiator pits, and vomiting bats, all for the sake of saving Charlie from the Scourge. And, hopefully, saving the universe from total and utter annihilation.

"One of the better reads this year. I found it to have a good balance between the story line, language and theme to where it was entertaining to an adult even though it is in the YA genre. Not that the YA genre means anything as many of my favorite reads come from there. I also like Jack as a character in the end especially when he gets existential on the situation."

" if u would like to read a book about a pain in the ass kid who has superpowers, no idea what is going on and a lil bid of dumb luck and a kid who is in no way remarkable at all and has little or no luck than this is the book for you, if u would rather not waist a few hrs of your life and be really angry that u just read a really stupid book because u thought the cover was cool than it is not "

" There are so many quotes on the back of this book talking about how exciting it is and how fast-paced... and they're all lying. Except for the last fifty pages or so, which were pretty well-paced, the rest of the book was slow. I just recently finished this book, and I've been trying to read it since February. It was just too slow to hold my attention. And Jack the Hero wasn't at all what he was made out to be in the description. That blurb was one big piece of false advertising. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because I can't give it one and a half. "

" THis book really creeped me out it was about a demon possesing a boy. Please is you love younger kids do not read this book!!! It gave me nightmares for several days, definatly a high school level book. "

" With regrets to my teen friend who recommended this book to me, I just didn't like it. I felt the characters were really one dimensional & their reactions were unrealistic. (In fantasy & sci-fi, I think you have to make people act even more realisticly/humanly because of the fantastic settings/plots.) I'm afraid I couldn't bring myself to finish the book. "

" Very, very good book. The only thing I didn't like was that the author plays the characters from many angles, and for me it was hard to discern what they were really feeling. I would not reccomend it if you are uncomfortable with dark ideas, or references to grim subjects. "
