Publisher Description

Jeannette Boucher, a young French beauty from a family left penniless by the revolution, must marry against her will to save them all from ruin. But almost immediately after the vows are spoken, she learns that her old English husband is impotent—and in his desire for an heir, he plans to compromise her in the worst way. Determined to escape such a fate, she stows away on one of His Majesty’s frigates. But a woman alone is in constant danger.

To Lieutenant Treynor, honor means everything.… Born a bastard to a wayward marquise, Lieutenant Crawford Treynor was given to a poor farmer to raise and was maltreated until he ran away to join the Royal Navy. Treynor is determined to prove he’s as good as any other man and rise to captain his own frigate. But once he finds Jeannette aboard The Tempest he must decide whether to return her to the man he knows would abuse her—or risk everything, even his life, to keep her safe.

"This book was pretty good. I enjoyed the action, suspense, twists and turns, and the honor and loyalty. The adventure was great the emotions strong. This is a good rainy day book and keeps the reader on their toes, you really don't know what exactly will happen. The ending was a great HEA. Enjoy."

" As historical romances go, it was alright. It was fast-paced and a rather quick read. I don't usually go for at-war or military leads in books, but I'd heard such good things about this book that I had to give it a shot. "

" I received this ARC via Netgalley. I'm really getting into historical romances and thought I'd give it a read. There were things that I really liked about it. The main character was pretty plucky and not so headstrong that she became annoying, and Novak's descriptive writing was informative, but not overly so. The story takes place mostly on a British frigate, some things needed to be explained to make sense obviously, and Novak managed to make those explanations palatable. On the other hand, I didn't fall for the hero. I didn't feel the passion that supposedly the MCs felt for each other. I also didn't buy the solution to make it okay for a high-born lady and a bastard to be accepted by the Ton. It was too quick and easy. Solid three stars. "

" Been a while since I read anything along these lines. It's very typical of the genre - a good example, in fact. It covers all the required basics for a romance based in the past. I don't think I'll search out more, but it's a nice light read and doesn't stray into the arena of soft porn. "

" I thought Ms. Novak did really well with the historical end of it, but the heroine drove me crazy because she put herself in a lot of needless danger that she had to be rescued from on the ship. The best part of the book was the tortured hero, Treynor. I really enjoyed seeing what made him tick and how he dealt with it. "

" An officer and a gentleman! It is an interesting tale with lots of honor and virtue so it is titled most appropriately. An enjoyable read, not too heavy but just enough suspense to keep you from putting it down. "

" Fell in love with the characters. I haven't read to many novels that take place almost solely on a ship, but I loved it. The characters were real and heartfelt. Can't wait to read more from this author. "

" Not quite what I expected, but it was a fun read nonetheless. I really liked Treynor as well as the settings in the story. I was a little frustrsted with the amount of near-sex that ultimately felt unrealistic, but that was my worst complaint. Overall, a decent read. "
