After news of his mother’s weak heart summons him home, globetrotting journalist Roman Chandler loses a coin toss with his brothers that determines who will relinquish his bachelor status to give their mother a grandchild. Roman decides to “settle down” without giving up his travel-intensive job, and as one of the most handsome men in town, he can have his pick of the local women—except for Charlotte Bronson, his high school crush. Thoughts of her parents’ miserable long-distance marriage keep Charlotte from accepting Roman’s proposal, despite the sexual sparks that fly at their every encounter. Mutual attraction eventually proves too powerful to resist, but first Roman must win her trust.

Quotes & Awards

  • “What woman wouldn’t want to marry handsome, charming Roman Chandler? The one woman he wants! Roman has come home to find himself a bride and give his mother grandchildren. But the one woman he wants is Charlotte, who will not let him keep his traveling ways. William Dufris’s robustly masculine voice exactly fits as Roman tries to convince Charlotte he is the man for her…The tone is even and clear and perfectly appropriate to each situation.”

" I had high expectations for these books after reading the 'Hot Zone' series and, after reading the first one, I have to say I am rather disappointed. Carly Phillips jumped into the story to quickly in this book. She didn't really develop the characters as much as I would have liked and that made it hard to connect to them. Some of the more minor storylines were kind of silly and I felt that the issues between the main characters and how they were solved was oversimplified. I do want to know what happens to the other two Chandler brothers so I will definitely read the other two books in the series but my expectations have dropped dramatically. "

" A cute, quick read. Roman and Charlotte make a good couple. With just enough spit and vinegar to keep their relationship going good. I love that Charlotte has a lingerie store. The underwear stealing was a cute addition, though I had a feeling who it was. I look forward to the next book to see what happens to the next victim, I mean Chandler brother. "

" It has been a long time since I read this book even though I knew I had read it. But honestly after reading the reviews I did remember it. As with Phillip's books this was cute. No this will not answer all your burning questions of the universe but if you are anything like me I read to get away from the world and this book helps you do that. Roman and Charlotte are great together. The 2 other brothers are sweet and I can't wait to read their stories (Playboy and Heartbreaker). Enjoy! "

" Inane but not enough so that I could get any laughs out of it. Uninspired plot, uninspired characters, uninspired writing and so much telling instead of showing that I began skimming. "

" I want to meet a "Roman" in real life.......never used to be one to read romantic novels, but this one was a tear-jerker for me. Too bad this hardly ever happens in real life.......the world would be a better place if it did. All over a great book written by a great author! "

" I liked the story, although it is not an indepth deep kind of book. The sex scenes were a bit drawn out, maybe great for a young adult, but for a jaded older woman, a bit boring. "

" I listened to this book as opposed to reading it, and the story is a 3 star. Entertaining, funny, romantic... the reader brought the book rating down for me. I could not get used to some of her character voices, they kept sounding drunk instead of from brooklyn. "

" This is the story of Sam Cooper and Lexie Davis who are drawn together by a piece of jewelry from an unsolved robbery in the 1950's . This is the first of Carly Phillips' bachelor blog trilogy. I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as the author's Chandler brothers trilogy. "
