On Parrish Island, a restricted island off the coast of Virginia, is a little-known and never-visited psychiatric facility. There, far from prying eyes, the government stores former intelligence employees whose psychiatric states make them a danger to their own government, people whose ramblings might endanger ongoing operations or prove dangerously inconvenient. One of these employees, former Consular Operations agent Hal Ambler, is kept heavily medicated and closely watched. But there's one difference between Hal and the other patients, Hal isn't crazy. With the help of a sympathetic nurse, Hal manages to clear his mind of the drug-induced haze and then pulls off a daring escape. Now he's out to discover who stashed him here and why, but the world he returns to isn't the one he remembers. Friends and longtime associates don't remember him, there are no official records of Hal Ambler, and, when he first sees himself in the mirror, the face that looks back at him is not the one he knows as his own. " At first I really liked the book, but then there were too many questiongs that seemed to get in the way of me enjoying the plot. And by the time they tied it up I felt the ending was really rushed and not as fulfilling as it could have been. Not my favorite by him. "

" My first book about spies, secret intelligence groups etc. Weird to say the least, not at all like James Bond but it could be the author's way of writing, flitting from one scenario to another confusing the heck out of any reader regardless how avid....not a bad read but I'll not be moved to buy anymore books by this author. "

" Not my usual genre, but the idea of someone escaping from a psychiatric facility and not looking like himself and having his identity erased was interesting to me. It was a slow read though. I wanted to find out what happened in the end (I did like the twist at the end, and I was surprised by it) but so many times I had to force myself to keep reading because it just got so long so often. "

" well, when you are alone in a train and you dont have a thing to do, when the tt checked you for smoking and you feel lousy.... and suddenly if you find the book on your seat, do read it then... o/w its best if you left it unread. nothing special or new :( "

" What happens to agents once they've done thier tour of duty and no longer have use by the government? This book sets out to answer that question. Instead of a cozy retirement on a tropical island and a gold watch Hal Ambler is fighting for his life and sanity. Makes you wonder. "

" It has been a long time since I have read a Ludlum book. My memory is not good enough to make a comparison to his other books. This had a good plot with lots of suspense. There were only a few unbelievable points. The characters were pretty shallow, typical for a thriller. One, the CIA auditor, was a lot of fun. "

" Step up from a Patterson novel but a good read to just give your brain a break. Also a bit to predicable for me and the ending was a bit blah. "

" A very entertaining story with a good finish. A little soppy at times but I'm not one for romance. I suppose the author wanted to the book to appeal to women as well. Would definitely recommend as a book to read. "
