Publisher Description

In this sizzling debut, J. J. Salem relentlessly lays bare the private behavior of public people in the fast-paced media spotlight. From Manhattan to the Hamptons, from Miami to Hollywood, the settings are larger than life, but the intimate realities hit straight to the heart.

Every listener will find some part of herself in the guilt, passions, fears, and longings of these dynamic women. Ambition and talent, sex, and seduction - their lives are full of it all - but they are on a crash course with destiny during one explosive summer.

Liza: She slays rival media commentators with her firebrand feminist spin, enjoying a lucrative career as the millennium's new Naomi Wolf. Yet she's falling into all the old traps she cautions other women to avoid.

Kellyanne: She waits tables and plays mistress to a rich developer, holding out for her big break as an actress. But why are the phenomenal looks that were supposed to take her all the way leading her to the edge of disaster?

Billie: She rocks the indie music scene with her nose pressed against the glass, hoping for a shot at real success in a cutthroat industry. Sex is candy, drugs are fuel, people are disposable, and looking out for number one is the only way she knows how to live.

Tan Lines is an addictive story that exposes the illusions of glamour, the dark side of success, and the elusiveness of love. Thrill by thrill and sin by sin, it's told with savvy insight and searing prose. Listen to it with sunscreen.

"The story is told through three main characters; Liza (a sucessful and fearless feminist), Kellyanne (an aspiring actress) and Billie (a rock b*tch with a drug issue). I found the story compelling and the character's endearing - they provoked emotional reactions in me to the major events in their lives...there have been very few books that have able to reach out to me as a reader like that and it was wonderful to be suckered into the story in such a way. I fell in love with this book. It was a real page-turner and if you're looking for a great chick-lit book with plenty of sex, drama and surprises I'd definitely recommend it."

" This book was overwhelming for me at times. Blame it on my Midwestern upbringing if you must. The characters led very shallow lives and only seemed to be interested in things that offered instant gratification. There was enough foul language and sex to make sailors blush. What bothered me about it all was that it seemed to demean each of the three main female characters instead of empower them. They seemed to have no respect for others, each other, or themselves. I think the author did an excellent job in make the characters very real...they just weren't people that I'd want to know. "

" I thought this would be a fun, sexy, little romance to bring some cheer to bring an end to winter blahs....it was just a porn. It started off with a woman doing a 19 yr old who was watching porn while doing the act on his computer and the woman then going across the hall to do the guys in there. Not what I expected. Did not finish. "

" This was a trashy beach novel at it's best. I can't wait for the follow up. I read the review in USA Today's beach reads section and it didn't dissapoint. It was almost embarrassingly trashy... almost. "
