Andi is short. And she has lots of wishes. She wishes she could play on the school basketball team, she wishes for her own bedroom, but most of all she wishes that her long-lost half-brother, Bernardo, could come and live in London where he belongs. Then Andi's biggest wish comes true and she's minutes away from becoming someone's little sister. As she waits anxiously for Bernardo to arrive from the Philippines, she hopes he'll turn out to be tall and just as crazy as she is about basketball. When he finally arrives, he's tall all right. Eight feet tall, in fact—plagued by condition called Gigantism and troubled by secrets that he believes led to his phenomenal growth. In a novel packed with quirkiness and humor, Gourlay explores a touching sibling relationship and the clash of two very different cultures.

"Such a lovely story, I couldn't put it down. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because it would be the ideal book for a 13 year old, which is great because that's who it's aimed at, unfortunately I'm not 13 anymore so it was slightly off my wavelength! I'll be recommending this one."

— Nikki, 12/24/2013" its a book from point of veiw "
— Harper, 10/2/2013" Sweet story with alternating viewpoints, recurring motifs, and a look at different cultures that doesn't knock you over the head like, "Look, a different culture!" Engaging. "
— Meredith, 9/28/2013" I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of this book. A really touching tale of an 8-foot-tall boy from the Philippines, who comes to London to be reunited with his family. It's sad, funny, dramatic, magical and true-to-life..what a debut! "
— Keren, 8/30/2013" A wonderful heart-rending story. Already shortlisted for many awards for children's books. "
— Helen, 8/24/2013" Really enjoyed being transported to London and the Philippines in this quick read with a touch of magical realism. Siblings alternate chapters. "
— Abby, 1/22/2013" I really enjoyed this book. The switching POV is a bit jarring at first, but I fell into a reading rhythm quickly enough. I thought the plot was well written. I also though the concet fort his book was wonderful and extremely human. "
— Liz, 5/13/2012" This was a really powerful realistic fiction book. It made me feel sad and happy at the same time. I thought it was a great book but the reason it kept me from giving it 5 stars was it was confusing a some parts. "
— Benjamin, 4/29/2012" "So many armpits, so little deodorant." What a great beginning! Haha. This is another sweet little story that almost reads like a folktale, but is indeed realistic fiction. I'm thinking about adding this to the summer list :) "
