" I give most Bryson books 3 stars but I consistently enjoyed them. I just don't rate them higher because there are so many other books that deserve 4 or 5 stars that I would recommend to everyone. This book taught me a lot about Australia in a way that was fun to read. Great night time book (my favorite catetory of book!) "

" I really enjoy Bill Bryson's style. It's an enjoyable read, especially in the evening when I want to just be mellow. "

" I had heard a lot of good things about this author and this book doesn't disappoint! A humourous recollection of his travels in Australia... almost makes me want to go back there someday! "

" A bit dry and somewhat slow to get through. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Louis | 2/2/2014

" Very amusing book. Bryson tells us of his trips and fills us in with historical notes along the way. He liked most of the country and it was fun to hear his take on many places I had been myself. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Terri | 1/23/2014

" Even if you don't plan on going to Australia this is a thoroughly clever read, lots of fun and full of things you didn't know - and admittedly might never have thought to ask - about Australia. I love the way Bryson travels, often seeking out the most obscure places, for even more obscure reasons and making them seem much more significant than they might otherwise be. "

" Love Bill Bryson. Combines humor with a learning experience. "

" Overall, I liked the book. At times it was very funny and at times it was boring. I was listening to the audio version read by the author. He has a very relaxing voice, which made it hard to stay awake on my way to work. However, I did appreciate his humor and learned a lot about Australia, which made it worthwhile. "

" Laugh out loud funny. I finished reading it on my flight to Australia several years ago. I was laughing out loud. Other people on the plane were also reading and laughing. Good information about Australia and hilarious. Bill Bryson is from my home town, Des Moines, Iowa. "

" Bryson captures you from the first line of his books, he has me laughing out loud in bookstores. I'll buy anything this guy writes. "

" Fantastic, as Bryson always is. Now I want to visit Australia even more! And I've developed a slight dislike for bunnies and those people who import invasive species. Who knew a dozen rabbits could destroy state-sized chunks of land?!? "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Tfalcone | 9/9/2013

" I love this travel author. He inspires me! I seriously laughed out loud for 5 minutes until I cried at one point in this book! "

" I have one word - Bryson. Actually not really a word, but you know what I mean. It's a good read. Perfect to take on my trip down under. Love his mix of local lore, history, humor.... "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Maggie | 7/21/2013

" I read this while living in Australia. I enjoyed it until near the end, when he went to Perth, where I was staying. I felt that it was a pretty sparse description of the area, which made me doubt the rest of the book. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Laura | 7/2/2013

" One of my all time favorite funny books! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Bryan Pope | 6/29/2013

" I didn't think Bryson could top his "A Walk in the Woods." Wrong. This is a funny, informative and affectionate account of his exploration of a fascinating, seemingly under-appreciated country that "has more things that will kill you than anywhere else." Fantastic. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Thorn | 6/22/2013

" Hilarious. You can't go wrong with Bryson reading Bryson. Too bad so many are 'abridged'. My 'no abridged audiobooks ever'-rule limits me considerably when it come to Mr. Bryson's work... "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Mich Michell | 6/10/2013

" An enjoyable read, as are all of Bill Bryson's. I learned a lot about Australia and had several good chuckles. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jeanne Taylor | 5/23/2013

" I like Bill Bryson's style of writing. This book was a little too meandery and long to hold my attention. I think a little less detail on the politics would have kept my interest longer. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jennifer F | 5/12/2013

" Enjoyed his descriptions very much. Got me excited to see Australia first hand (and spurred me to visit the WildLife World to see the snakes in person) "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Alicia | 5/9/2013
