FORMAT: 4 CDs, Unabridged
NARRATOR: TBA
This is the first in a three-book middle-grade series about a twelve-year-old boy whose father is a "disaster hunter" -- someone who keeps an eye out for situations like Hurricane Katrina, tornados, etc., and heads TOWARD them with the intention of offering his services and expertise in reconstruction. But sometimes the boy's father also exploits those in need, something his son can't stand and tries to compensate for in his own way. Book One will take us to the scene of a hurricane, and it will be nonstop adventure from the first page.

"I liked the story....but I did not like that the problem of the story is not resolved. The reader must read (buy?) The next book. I love series, but feel each book should be able to stand alone with some threads continuing, but not the main conflict of the book. Maybe I'm extra-sensitive working in a low-income school where kids don't get the opportunity to buy many books. Three books to complete one story seems unfair when they may only get to buy one book all year."

“Smith leaves many loose ends in what is clearly the first offering in an adventure series. Readers are also left with tantalizing hints that Chase’s father’s business goes beyond mere repairs into something that is perhaps more sinister. Certain to grab readers and leave them waiting to snatch up the next installment, this is a fast-paced page-turner.”
— Booklist“An exciting, quick read, with chapters alternating between Chase and his father, who is trying to find him…Readers will feel engaged with Chase and his friends in their struggles to survive.”
— School Library Journal“This young adult reader is sure to capture the attention of preteens and early teenagers, particularly boys, though girls will most likely enjoy the suspenseful read as well. Smith does an excellent job of creating mystery and holding the reader’s attention until the last paragraph. The ending will leave readers waiting in anticipation for the next book in this series.”
— Children’s Literature“Readers will really feel blasts of wind, water and flying debris in this disaster tale.”
— Kirkus Reviews" This was one of the best middle grade (5th and 6th) books I've read in a while. It's nonstop action, realistic dialogue and intriguing characters make me not want to put it down, an unusual quality for this age-range. "
— Brynn, 2/16/2014" Great read that left the reader on a cliff hanger! How could you do that to us??? "
— Mary, 2/16/2014" Great book for 6th graders. Fast read! "
— Jane, 2/13/2014" It was a good book and Left you on your feet. "
— Aadam, 2/9/2014" Perfect for middle grade action lovers. "
— Carrieuoregon, 2/4/2014" This is a great read-aloud for students. 3 teen-agers must battle the elements to reach home during a hurricane. . . . Short chapters, fast paced action, and cliff-hanging chapters make this an edge of their seat read-aloud. The kids literally beg for more! "
— Caroline, 2/1/2014" Even though this book is recommended for lower ages, its still a good book. I liked pretty much everything except for the cliffhanger ending. The author could have made this book longer. "
— Austin, 1/23/2014" This was a great adventure book! Roland Smith never lets me down when it comes to smart, courageous boys. Storm runners looks like it will be another great series. "
— Starr, 1/17/2014" This is a fantastic middle grade read (or listen) but be warned it ends abruptly so you'll need to read the sequel! "
— Jacci, 1/15/2014" I liked this book because... 1.It was a real page turner 2.The descriptions are so vivid that you feel like your in the book. 3.You can really picture the book in your head. That is why I really liked this book.:) "
— Spencer, 1/10/2014" it was so good! I can wait for "The Surge" to come out in September! "
— Tina, 1/2/2014" Storm runners is an undescribable book about bravery and risk. This book keeps me on the edge of my chair thruogh the whole book. "
— Brontë, 1/1/2014" This was a great book and I would read the other ones. I rated this four stars because the characters were good and it was very detailed. "
— Dylan, 12/29/2013" Kinda cheesy but perfect for its intended audience-4th and 5th grade boys. "
— Michelle, 12/13/2013" We liked this series - and read it pretty quickly because we just HAD to know what was coming next. It did seem to get intense in some parts for some of my more "tender" children, and there were some words that I skipped when reading it outloud to them. "
— Amanda, 12/11/2013" A fast paced book about three students trying to make it home during a hurricane after a bus wreck. The ending is a cliffhanger...cant't wait for the sequel. Everyone will love this book but I think it will really appeal to boys. It has everything...hurricanes, animals, survival and adventure. "
— PJ, 11/8/2013" The book was a quick read and had fantastic non-stop action. I could see middle school boys loving the pace of the book because of all of its twists and turns. I would have rated this book much higher except for the ending destroyed the book; I didn't realize it was the first book in a series. "
— Tracey, 10/15/2013" YEAH! this book was great full of action!!! "
— Grace, 10/8/2013" Great book! Can't wait to read the sequel! "
— Lauren, 4/10/2013" Really dislike books that should be one good book but instead they divide it up into small sections and make it a series. ARRGGH! "
— Janet, 3/31/2013" Action, action, action! Loved! "
— Stacey, 11/29/2012" I read this book in two hours - good story, but it's part of a series so be prepared for a non-ending. And then having to wait for the next book to be published. "
— Christine, 11/21/2012" I would wait until all the books in the series come out before reading this one. It ends rather abruptly and it is frustrating not knowing what happens next. I also don't like how there is so much you don't know by the end of the book. I hate feeling in the dark as the reader. "
— Tiffany, 5/12/2012" This book is the best book I have ever read!! It keeps you on the edge of your seat no matter what part of the story your at!! Can't wait to read the next one! "
— Abby, 3/9/2012" Good book. Educational too! "
— Chana, 3/8/2012" The kids and I really enjoyed this book, but we couldn't believe what a cliffhanger the ending was! It's as bad as a soap opera! "
— Jen, 1/10/2012" This was a great book from the start. "
— Blake, 10/27/2011" I see some reviewers didn't like this one. However... I did! A lot. "
— Les, 4/29/2011" Unlike the last books I've read, this one was easy to get into and I didn't need to reward myself with chocolate to finish. However, it wasn't the best story Parker has come up with. "
— Kay, 11/25/2010" Another good book by T. Jefferson Parker. Worth reading. "
— Donna, 8/30/2010" Another great page-turner from T. Jeff "
— Razzed, 6/16/2010" I've read two things by this author and found them to be different from the normal stuff a bit which was good. "
— April, 6/1/2010" A great fast read. The hero and villain are ex-friends and high school mates. The one is an ex-cop and the other a Mexican Maffia leader. There is murder, mayhem, rainmaking and all sorts of interesting plot twists. "
— Joyce, 6/1/2009" It was hard for me to finish this book because of the plot...people actually trying to make "rain". But, I didn't realize that until I was way into the story. A good little love story was also involved. "
— Betty, 5/16/2009" Disappointing. Parker is fantastic usually. Pretty thin plot and character development; must have been on a deadline to get it out. I did enjoy the fact that a lot of the action takes place in the town I live in, Azusa, CA. "
— Scott, 1/15/2009" I'm a big T. Jefferson Parker fan and I loved this story. He has moved from Orange County to San Diego County where I live and it's fun to see places that I have been to used as a part of the plot. "
