" Even though this is a simple read, it is a complex story. For that reason, I think it is best left for older children--upper elementary and higher. The story is holds both tragedy and victory within a very small frame. I love that the author created the story from a Rocky Mountain legend that is reported to have actually occurred. This adds depth to the tale and helps you understand why a hard story often begs to be told. This book is especially effective as a Hi-Lo book, but any older reader can enjoy it. "
