In Stone Fox, Little Willy has a big job to do. When his grandfather falls ill, it is up to Willy alone to save their farm from the tax collector. He enters the National Dogsled Race, where he must beat the Indian Stone Fox and his five beautiful Samoyed dogs.

In Top Secret, a boy, attempting to win a trophy at a school science fair, transforms himself into a human plant. His formula is then declared a top-secret threat to national security.

"Even though this is a simple read, it is a complex story. For that reason, I think it is best left for older children--upper elementary and higher. The story is holds both tragedy and victory within a very small frame. I love that the author created the story from a Rocky Mountain legend that is reported to have actually occurred. This adds depth to the tale and helps you understand why a hard story often begs to be told. This book is especially effective as a Hi-Lo book, but any older reader can enjoy it."
