"I really liked this one not so much because it was an amazing story - it was a good story - but more because of how it changed how I think about how scientific funding works and how the results may be skewed and how the media plays into all of this. The idea of the "state of fear," which doesn't get really defined until nearly the end is really interesting, too. This book really gives you a lot to think about current events, specifically related to all the current hype about global warming, but about other topics, too. I recommend it to just about anyone because we really need to stop and think about where our information is coming from. It's so muddled up in politics and other interests that it is very hard to see the truth anymore."

" First-rate thriller, with over-the-top greens as the new terrorists, trying to shake awake a lethargic public. Activists use the latest technology to create "weather" events that appear to be natural and related to global climate change. Crichton is at his best in documenting the reasons for division among our best and brightest scientific minds where climate change is concerned. And it's a page-turner, too. What's not to like?? "
— Victor, 2/17/2014" A little "in your face" with the references, making the facts a little obvious, but overall a decent read with a refreshing look at environmental beliefs. "
— Lindsay, 2/5/2014" SUCH a great book. Read it! "
— Richard, 2/2/2014" The frightening world of cannibalism, hyped-up global warming and the politics of media, for me this roller coaster ride of a read is satisfying, but it leaves me perplexed with guilt, after I find my self quite agreeing with the fictional narrative that the mainstream media often is a partner in undocumented crimes. Well, in my opinion, based on real life experiences, this book made it in my favorite thriller list. "
— Cecille, 1/29/2014" Long, convuluted and far too much data. I put this book down many times before I finally finished the story. "
— Krista, 1/28/2014" This book was suspenseful and action packed! "
— Robin, 1/7/2014" Interesting fiction look at the environmental debates going on. Takes to the extreme the idea of going to any lengths to prove your beliefs are right. Scary in places but eye opening too. "
— Stacy, 12/21/2013" Very well written and extraordinarily researched. Loved the subject matter and, as usual, Crichton manages to make science understandable and enjoyable. "
— Derek, 12/6/2013" learned some really good information that one does not hear in the popular news about the ways in which our education hierarchy pushes and preaches fear of global warming and other similar theories without, and told a tale of deception and intrigue relative to this. "
— James, 11/23/2013" Great topic, not such a good read :( yet I totally agree with the premise!! I do enjoy MC very much, this was just not a "gripper"! "
— Robyn, 9/11/2013" Another good one. To me, its like a look at what is currently going on in the fight for and against global warming... "
— Jillian, 8/29/2013" Hokey. Preachy. Yet, I inhaled it on vacation. Usually I like my Crichton but give me a break, man. "
— Jeff, 4/11/2013" A Decent book but for some reasn I found this to be a MUCH harder read than any of his earlier books, and struggled to stay interested in several spots. "
— Matt, 3/5/2013" Not only a great adventure/thriller, but a wake-up call on environmental issues and on organizations that raise funds. One of the final passages was so utterly brutal, I almost couldn't read it. Dr. Crichton has always been one of my favorite authors. "
— Kathryn, 2/24/2013" Another great one from Crichton, with interesting background on global warming. "
— Mark, 1/5/2013" The story was ok, but this book was very influencial in the presentations of data and arguments that caused me to first doubt global warming. "
— Marlan, 1/5/2013" A must read for all the people interested in the changes of climate and global warming. "
— Joanne, 1/1/2013" I had heard a lot about this book and was anxious to read it. It was exciting and fun to read, but not a book I would quickly re-read. "
— Ria, 11/11/2012" While I may disagree with this novel philosophically, it did make me think and consider both sides of the climate change issue. "
— Kerry, 9/1/2012" As all his books it is very intelligent and quite intense. "
— Ylva, 5/13/2012" An eye-opener. Everyone should have to read this book. "
— Beth, 12/20/2011" Fiction approach to the issue of global of warming. The message is don't believe what you read in the newspapers or watch on the news. There are many other motivations for making us think that this is a real problem. A good read that presents the other side of this issue. "
— Kate, 12/4/2011" To some a book about the truth or falsehood regarding global warming. To me a clear picture of the political ramifications relating to major issues. "
— Sandy, 6/18/2011" Excellent, I liked this one a lot. "
— Andy, 5/20/2011" My first Michael Crichton book. I actually really enjoyed this one. I found it similar to the Preston/Child books that I enjoy, where the topic is just beyond my understanding. But not to the point where I feel lost or confused. If anyone has any other Cricthon books they like, let me know. "
— Graham, 5/20/2011" The plot is extremely far fetched and unbelievable. The story obviously consists of a political opinion wrapped in a thin veil of awful pseudoscience. I could forgive that, but it's just plain too cheesy.

"
— Jillwings, 5/16/2011" Crichton really did his research with this one. Excellent insight on global warning intertwined with an excellent story. There were at least three separate times in this book where I could not put it down. "
— Tim, 5/7/2011" From a literary perspective I give this book 3 Stars... but when one recognizes the hard science, documented truth, and Chriton's exposure of Climate gate years before it hits newspapers.. it then becomes a must read. But beware; there are two immoral events in the story. "
— Alan, 5/5/2011" A little slow in the beginning but the ending tied up everything nicely. Really makes you questions the role of corporations and the unquestioning nature of our society towards "scientific data." "
— Kelly, 5/3/2011" WOW! I didn't expect an assault on global warning! Chrichton does a masterful job, a convincing job also, of showing the many many fallacies of global warming and how much of the publicity is driven by money and power. We should all read this before we plunge into the debates. "
— Dad, 4/22/2011" this was entertaining to read. And even though i didn't like the preaching(maybe that was Crichton's intention) and i didn't agree with him, it was quite fun "
