"Sometimes a little too technical, but then my hubby says this is "heavy" sci-fi. I'm actually listening to the audio version on my commute to and from work. I'm glad we have an actual copy of it for reference purposes. It is VERY entertaining so far! I read somewhere that they are actually in producing the film version right now. More to come........"

— M, 2/9/2014" Earthlings have raised chimps and dolphins to sapient status as they voyage to the stars. There are many other races however of patrons and clients - almost all are hostile to Earth. The earthlings discovers something of great value and the other races try to take it away from them. I enjoyed it and might read more in this series. "
— Stuart, 2/8/2014" I enjoyed quite a bit of this novel but I also kept getting extremely bored with it and putting it down for extended periods of time... so, decent book, decent story, decent ideas, decent execution... just frequently boring. "
— Benjie, 2/6/2014" Dolphin porn "
— Letterswitch, 1/29/2014" Hell yes! "
— LunchBagArt, 1/20/2014" My first David Brin book. Got me hooked pretty good. I have loved his books since then. Space-opera on a grand scale with a wonderful spectrum of characters you do not want to leave. Fortunately you meet most of them again in later books. "
— Thomas, 12/12/2013" This is a must read. Introduced me to the writing of David Brin and is still my favorite of all of his books. It does what good science fiction does. It makes you think while it entertains. "
— Marcus, 11/23/2013" Had trouble getting into this book, not sure why. Glad to have finished it, though. It ended well. Looking forward to the rest of the series. "
