"Sometimes a little too technical, but then my hubby says this is "heavy" sci-fi. I'm actually listening to the audio version on my commute to and from work. I'm glad we have an actual copy of it for reference purposes. It is VERY entertaining so far! I read somewhere that they are actually in producing the film version right now. More to come........"
— Shelley (4 out of 5 stars)
" Richly imagined and extremely well executed. I recommend the whole series. "
— Harry, 2/15/2014" 1 1/2 wks "
— M, 2/9/2014" Earthlings have raised chimps and dolphins to sapient status as they voyage to the stars. There are many other races however of patrons and clients - almost all are hostile to Earth. The earthlings discovers something of great value and the other races try to take it away from them. I enjoyed it and might read more in this series. "
— Stuart, 2/8/2014" I enjoyed quite a bit of this novel but I also kept getting extremely bored with it and putting it down for extended periods of time... so, decent book, decent story, decent ideas, decent execution... just frequently boring. "
— Benjie, 2/6/2014" Dolphin porn "
— Letterswitch, 1/29/2014" Hell yes! "
— LunchBagArt, 1/20/2014" My first David Brin book. Got me hooked pretty good. I have loved his books since then. Space-opera on a grand scale with a wonderful spectrum of characters you do not want to leave. Fortunately you meet most of them again in later books. "
— Thomas, 12/12/2013" This is a must read. Introduced me to the writing of David Brin and is still my favorite of all of his books. It does what good science fiction does. It makes you think while it entertains. "
— Marcus, 11/23/2013" Had trouble getting into this book, not sure why. Glad to have finished it, though. It ended well. Looking forward to the rest of the series. "
— Stephen, 10/4/2013" This was a great book about space dolphins. I'm going to recommend it if you enjoy Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. "
— Scott, 8/2/2013" This was a very good read. Lots of action and thought provoking ideas. I did not want it to end and really wanted more information about many of the characters and what befell them after the novel concluded. Looking forward to the third book in the Uplift Saga. "
— Shana, 7/3/2013" Interesting story, but don't think I like how the saga focuses so much on the story at hand. Maybe Dune ruined me, but I tend to want to hear more about the politics and war going on elsewhere, instead of just having them as a vague backdrop. "
— Mike, 5/30/2013" Een briljant boek! "
— Edelhart, 3/11/2013" This is a sci/fi fantasty book. But I promis it's not fluff. I've never met a David Brin book I didn't like, and this is no exception. "
— Millsjross, 10/14/2012" One of those rare works to win both the Hugo and Nebula, and quite worth it. Its one weakness is telling a relatively small slice of a very big story, leaving many questions unanswered. "
— Jon, 9/9/2012" A small group of humans and one intelligent chimpanzee assist aboard the first dolphin spaceship. I read this book while recovering from a knee injury and had to spend a lot of time in a Jacuzzi; the perfect environment to read a novel about a spaceship filled with water. "
— Keith, 6/12/2012" better than sundiver, more sci-fi, but too long. needs more dialogue. made talking dolphins and chimps believable "
— Jason, 2/2/2012" Dolphins in SPAAAAACE! Clunky 80s style aside; a decent story. Very one-dimensional villains though. "
— Waqas, 1/10/2012" The Terran vessal, Streaker crashes on an uncharted world, Kithrup. The crew has an important galactic discovery on board. While alien races fight to see who claims the crew, the human and dolphin crew battles rebellion and struggles to survive on a hostile planet. Excellent read! "
— Rusty, 7/24/2011" One of the finest, most thought provoking and imaganitive novels I have everread. This is a materful book and it is the best volume of the Uplift saga that I have yet read. "
— Browncoat359, 6/17/2011" This is one slow read--slower than I was thinking--I don't know if there are any characters--be they human or fin, that I care about. I may never finish this. "
— Jason, 4/8/2011" This was way better than Sundiver. "
— Mandy, 3/25/2011" This was one of those books I stayed up all night reading because I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the characters, the pacing was excellent and the plot twists were believable. "
— Titus, 3/16/2011" Has some interesting ideas, but the storytelling was not very interesting and the plot was ultimately very simple. It felt like a lot of background wrapped around not much story. It took a long time to get through. "
— Matthew, 3/1/2011" This is probably my favorite book that I read during high school and was reread many times during my 20's. "
— Jim, 1/23/2011" Great continuation of overall uplift theme. I hope that we eventually learn more about Streaker's discovery though? Also - in the easy reading spirit of these books, a lot is left up to good luck to progress the plot. "
