Publisher Description

Civil war rages as the Galactic Alliance, led by Cal Omas and the Jedi forces of Luke Skywalker, battles a confederation of breakaway planets that rally to the side of rebellious Corellia. Suspected of involvement in an assassination plot against Queen Mother Tenel Ka of the Hapes Consortium, Han and Leia Solo are on the run, hunted by none other than their own son, Jacen, whose increasingly authoritarian tactics as head of GA security have led Luke and Mara Skywalker to fear that their nephew may be treading perilously close to the dark side. But all Jacen wants is safety and stability for all - and he's prepared to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.

As the strands of destiny draw ever more tightly together in a galaxy-spanning web, the shocking conclusion will shatter two families and cast a grim shadow over the future.

"Oh....this was really-really epic book for me....things in this book become a lot more darker and Jacen starts to take his Sith Lord mantle....storyline and writing is so good in this.....only negative thing I can say about this book is that I found Boba Fett and Mandalorian parts a bit distracting and unneccesary to the main story...alltogether...I think this is the best book in this series so far....I definitely suggest this book and whole series to any Star Wars EU fan..."

" To be such a pivotal book in the EU I found this one a little disappointing. The story just wasn't there. "

" Mixed feelings about this one. The entire series moves far too slowly, and I was furious about the death of a beloved character. However, I thought the final battle between Mara and Jacen was a true testament to how much of a fighter Mara was. She gave Jacen a hell of a time, and had he not magically produced poison darts (really? c'mon...) Mara would have kicked his ass. I also thought the scenes in which Ben and Luke respectively feel her passing were quite well done. I choked up a little when Luke could feel her fingers in his hair one last time. :( "

" This series is not for the casual Star Wars reader. This is a dark tale that goes to some very unhappy places. Since this is only the first in the third trilogy of the 9 part series, there is no conclusion to the overall story arc. The dark only gets darker. "

" It's always satisfying to me when authors kill off a major character. Especially when it's done well and done to propel the plot forward. So this was a satisfying installment for me. "

" The next big series after the New Jedi Order was a great read. It really delves into the consequences of the Yuuzhan Vong war. I could have done without the not-so-vague commentary on American politics, though. "

" I actually liked this story. I love whenever they bring Boba Fett into the fray. Best part, though, was Mara Jade's death. Whenever someone major dies in the Star Wars universe, it is always huge. "

" This book, in my opinion, is when this particular series reached a tipping point and jumped the shark in terms of quality. Mara deserved better, I despise Mopey!Luke, and the name Darth Caedus is more meh than menacing. "

" This book was really good and really sad at the same time because Jacen, now Darth Caedus, makes his sacrifice by killing someone close to him. This sacrifice tears apart the Skywalker/Solo family, especially because it shows that Jacen has turned to the dark side and is not coming back. "
