But now, as their adopted country prepares for war, Seregil is called away by the ancient wizard Nysander to face the ultimate challenge of loyalties and is entrusted with a deadly knowledge that, if breached, could cost both Seregil and the unwitting Alec their lives. As Alec learns the shocking truth of his own shadowed heritage, he, Seregil, and a handful of loyal companions are catapulted into a tumultuous conflict with the ultimate evil—a conflict in which magic alone may no longer shield them from harm.

"Amazing piece of second book. I have to admit, at some point true the story, I was angry with the wizard Nysander, he was to blind for his own good. But in general the storyline was emotionally complete and excellent. The end was tragic and sad, Alec and Seregil went true a rough times, but with love everything was solved. I liked this part, it was AMAZING and definitely of a series which is a must "HAVE IT". I enjoyed listening to an audio edition of this second part."

" Part 2 to Luck in the Shadows. More of the same, expectations pleasantly fulfilled. "
— K, 2/12/2014" Flwewlling is an extremely competent writer. Frequently, it feels like the meticulous details of his world building gets in the way of character development and the occasionally interesting ideas that are presented. Other times, I begin to wonder if there were any interesting ideas or just cliches and platitudes. However, the narrative is well developed and the action scenes well crafted. I'm not sure why the last few chapters are there, but I'm sure someone out there will appreciate them. "
— JuliAnna, 1/19/2014" This was a re-read. Better than the first book in the series but not as good as the third. "
— Dev, 12/22/2013" The second book featuring Seregil and Alec, this one plunges the duo into danger. With some unexpected turns and twists, the characters learn about their personal strengths and what their relationship means to them. Read it. It just pulls you along and won't let you go. Read on my NookColor. "
— Erulisse, 12/21/2013" The conclusion of the big quest from the first book Luck in the Shadows, Stalking Darkness continues to build the characters and the world they live in. The book starts off the same fun, yet dark adventure, but then gets darker and darker as war comes and the characters put their training to use. Not all is happy and ends well. "
— Abby, 12/21/2013" Again, loved this book the second time around. "
— Jessica, 12/12/2013" I liked that a lot more than the first book. :P "
— Ally, 9/29/2013" A really fun adventure/fantasy novel. Great characters and a really satisfying story. One of the things I really like about this series is that the books stand on their own. Some series (hello Sookie Stackhouse) feel like one book is just setting up the next - not the case here. "
— Glenn, 9/15/2013" Always, always a favourite. No matter how many times I read it, the ending always gets to me... and knowing what's coming makes the whole thing that much more bitter-sweet. Clearly I'm way too emotionally invested in these characters, but they're worth getting invested in. "
— Eric, 8/27/2013" Fun, satisfying following to the first book. This series has so far done a very good job of making each book stand well on its own while also setting up for sequels. "
— Sean, 2/3/2013" A very solid follow-up to the first Nightrunner book, with more even pacing throughout, some good character and relationship development, and a very exciting denouement. I'm looking forward to the final book in the trilogy. "
— Salimbol, 9/15/2012" The sequel was even better than the first! The adventure becomes more serious, secrets come out, and the characters and their relationships get more complicated. Heartbreaking and beautiful. "
— Leah, 6/11/2012" The best of the Nightrunner series so far. <3 "
— Kara, 12/17/2011" Seregil and Alec are one of my favorite gay couples in literature. In this second book in the series, they finally confront their feelings for each other, but not in a way that at all gets in the way of the plot. What a refreshing difference from many other books I have read! "
— Omly, 10/30/2011" A good read and continuation of the first book (Luck in the Shadows), which should be read before beginning this book. I have to admit that the last quarter of the book seemed rushed and thrown together for convenience to finish the story. "
— Scott, 10/7/2011" #2 of series-excellent "
— Marnie, 3/12/2011" The sequel was even better than the first! The adventure becomes more serious, secrets come out, and the characters and their relationships get more complicated. Heartbreaking and beautiful. "
— Leah, 3/8/2011" Incredible world-building. Strong characterization, intelligent plot. Very interesting description, phrasing. "
— Patty, 3/6/2011" Always, always a favourite. No matter how many times I read it, the ending always gets to me... and knowing what's coming makes the whole thing that much more bitter-sweet. Clearly I'm way too emotionally invested in these characters, but they're worth getting invested in. "
— Eric, 3/5/2011" One of my all-time favorites!<br/> "
— Kristin, 1/13/2011" I feel as though the series ended here. Ive tried reading on, but it just slows. "
— Bo, 12/19/2010" Another great book!I'm so glad to see a writer create a story with gay characters who have purpose and are believable. this story does not get hung up with sex and it allows a relationship to grow without taking away from all the other wonderful excitement or mystery. Thank you for this series. "
— Donnie, 12/18/2010" equally amazing second volume of the Nightrunner-Series. there is still not one thing I don't like about those books. "
— Chrissey, 8/31/2010" This series is so thoroughly enjoyable and I love how the hint of romance doesn't take up the whole book. I'm starting the third one right now which, for me, is saying something since I rarely make it past book 2 in any given series :) "
— Racheal, 8/3/2010" The story gets interesting in this book, with a healthy dose of tragedy to keep things fresh. "
