Makedde Vanderwall is a woman with a past. She is beautiful, street-smart and single, a model paying her way through a degree in forensic psychology. But behind the wit and winning smile is a woman haunted by violent nightmares and plagued by thoughts of Detective Andy Flynn, the ex-lover who saved her from a serial killer in Sydney. Mak has returned to Vancouver, her hometown in Canada, eager to finish her studies, move on from the ordeal, and find some peace of mind. But instead she walks straight into a city gripped by fear, and a campus where the students are fair game. As winter closes in and the days grow shorter, Mak is drawn into a shifting world of unstable minds and untrustworthy men, where motives are unclear and desires are unchecked. Her past cannot be so easily forgotten, and she must face her greatest challenge yet.

"I was lucky enough to meet Tara Moss last week and this is why I read Split, as I'm not a huge crime reader, even though she herself recommends her new YAL Pandora English series. But she was so charming and interesting that I wanted to see what she writes. For someone who finds Bond film plots difficult to follow, I cottoned on pretty quickly to Mak Vanderwall's dilemma. I read it in two short sessions, enjoyed the references to Canada (a place on my 'to visit' list) and the feeling of claustrophobic terror that she did manage to evoke. Makedde is a likeable heroine even though she is mainly ridding herself of her own psychological hang-ups rather than sorting out crimes and mysteries. Maybe the intense descriptions of bound, tortured and hunted women is an analogy for everything a model has to go through in her career! Very cosy and readable and I would dip into another to see what Makedde does next now she is free of her demons."

" I thought the story was a bit predictable, but overall I still enjoyed reading this book. I probably won't re-read this one, but I would be interesting in finding other books by this author. "
— Kimifly, 2/13/2014" Meh, it's a story, but not thrilling could def put it down and not worry about what's going to happen next. "
— Melanie, 1/25/2014" Tara Moss's writing improved for this book, it is clearer and more readable than Fetish; "
— Eunira, 1/20/2014" I read this book years ago but it was brilliant! I won it in a competition and gave it a read and fell for it so quickly. I wish I still had the book. "
— Elise, 1/19/2014" Good audio book and follow on from the previous book. Short and entertaining. "
— Betty, 12/26/2013" The series made it fun to read; I finished these books in 2 or 3 days. "
— Kristin, 12/15/2013" Yikes sucked in again and read another one. Highly dubious writing but great for those brain fogged days or the few minutes before you fall asleep. "
— Sylvia, 10/27/2013" Quite an enjoyable read... Looking forward to no 3 in the series. "
— Sharyn, 9/26/2013" After reading Tara's first book Fetish I had to buy Split and enjoyed it as much as the first and eagerly waited for her third. She had become my new favourite author. "
— Jenni, 12/10/2012" I listened to the audiobook. This was my first Tara Moss. I enjoyed the plot but found the author's narration somewhat dreary. There were even a few mispronuncuations which surprised me. "
— Margot, 10/11/2012" I think Moss writes well in that her sentences are short, easy to read and add to the sense of momentum she achieves in her novels. I think she's less strong at plot/story but she has I guess genuine insights into the world of modelling, fashion and the misogyny of men. "
