Lucy Sweeney has three sons, a husband on a short fuse, and a tendency toward domestic disaster. It has been years since the dirty laundry pile was less than three feet high, months since she remembered to have sex, and weeks since her toddler started using the trash can as a toilet. Lucy is living in a constant state of emergency, caught between perfectionist Yummy Mummy Number One and competitive Alpha Mum, making it hard for her to remember exactly why she exchanged her career and sanity for less than blissful domesticity. When she begins a flirtation with Sexy Domesticated Dad, a father from the school car-pool lane, the string of white lies to cover up the trail of chaos and illicit desire starts to unravel and disaster looms.

Slummy Mummy is a hilarious novel about the dilemmas of modern marriage and motherhood for those who never discovered their inner domestic goddess. Pitch-perfect and satisfyingly smart, it offers a lovable, flawed character who resonates, entertains, and undoubtedly has it worse than you do.

" barely ok. some parts (dealing with kids and school) very cute. but the whole premise of infidelity, real and imagined, was off putting to me. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Dawn | 2/13/2014

" I got about 30 pages into this book and it just wasn't getting any better so I had to put it out of its misery. Believe me, it was a mercy killing. I wish I could say something good about this book and/or the lead characters but it had very few redeeming qualities. "

" Another book purchased in Australia due to running out of reading material. It's classic chick lit., but fun to read. The ending definitely took the form of one that seems more appropriate for a comedic movie than a novel, but enjoyable nonetheless. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Teresa | 1/28/2014

" surprisingly entertaining for me given that I don't really like chick lit. I found her life uncannily like my own, ok I don't ache for sexy domesticated dad or have a celebrity dad at our school but a lot of other more mundane similarities! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jen | 1/25/2014

" A surprisingly insightful book! The story definitely gets a little "out there," but if you have school-aged children, you'll find many relatable moments within the story. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Kelly Aley | 1/23/2014

" I only got halfway through this book. It is proported to be like Bridget Jones, but this author is nowhere near as clever, nor funny. Having multiple thoughts and some actions towards an extra-marital affair isn't humorous. Having a best friend who is having an affair with a married man isn't funny either. At least Bridget Jones wasn't married! I didn't even chuckle once and I got to page 150 out of 300ish. I feel guilt over not finishing something, but this book wasn't worth my time. "

" I loved reading this book. Great beach read, especially for stay at home and PTO moms. Though parts of the book are a little silly and outrageous, Lucy will have you feeling a little better about your own life. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Cindi Tait basson | 11/16/2013

" Ahh, this is what happens when Bridget Jones has kids and becomes a stay at home mom. The whole infidelity thing was not my favorite part, but the crazy lady sure made me laugh (and maybe feel a little better about myself!) And the fact that the narrator was a lovely British lady didn't hurt. "

" I love Lucy's funny predicaments and also the author's/character's very accurate portrayal of the stresses of motherhood, the struggle between working mom or stay-at-home mom, and the competition (will anyone admit it?) between parents of children in school and playgroups. Fun Fiction! "
