Publisher Description

Debut author Meagan Spooner splashes onto the YA literary scene with this thrilling blend of fantasy and science fiction. Lark Ainsley has waited for years to be selected for the harvest- when a child's magic is taken to supply energy for the City. It's a rite of passage, marking the end of childhood. Yet when Lark's name is finally called, she discovers she's a Renewable, with enough magic to supply the City with power for the rest of her life. Now, to escape becoming a human battery, Lark must make a run for it- out of the City, beyond the Wall, and into the unknown.

"Just finished reading Skylark and it was incedibly satisfying and left me wanting more. There were definitely a number of plot twists that I wasn't expecting and while some left me happy, some also left me feeling quite sad! The descriptions of each of the worlds the Lark discovers are colourful and vibrant and sometimes terribly frightening. It was a beautiful read. It will definitely be a long wait for the 2nd book!"

" I liked this book. I thought that it was a good quick read but my eyes weren't glued to it. I will be watching this author though as there is a lot of potential there. "

" The beginning and middle are soooo slow. I just couldn't get into it. The author was trying to shove too many genres into one book; it was like a sci-fi/fantasy/dystopian/ steampunk... I don't even know. It was just weird. 3 stars for the end; it was redeemable. "
