Publisher Description

The meeting place was carefully chosen: an abandoned church in rural Ireland just after dark. For Jonathan Quinn—a freelance operative and professional “cleaner”—the job was only to observe. If his cleanup skills were needed, it would mean things had gone horribly wrong. But an assassin hidden in a tree assured just that. And suddenly Quinn had four dead bodies to dispose of and one astounding clue—to a mystery that is about to spin wildly out of control. Three jobs, no questions. That was the deal Quinn had struck with his client at the Office. Unfortunately for him, Ireland was just the first. Now Quinn, along with his colleague and girlfriend—the lethal Orlando—has a new assignment touched off by the killings in Ireland. Their quarry is a U.N. aide worker named Marion Dupuis who has suddenly disappeared from her assignment in war-torn Africa. When Quinn finally catches a glimpse of her, she quickly flees, frantic and scared. And not alone. For Quinn the assignment has now changed. Find Marion Dupuis, and the child she is protecting, and keep them from harm. If it were only that easy. Soon Quinn and Orlando find themselves in a bunker in the California hills, where Quinn will unearth a horrifying plot that is about to reach stage critical for a gathering of world leaders—and an act of terror more cunning, and more insidious, than anyone can guess. Fast, smart, sleek, and stunning, Shadow of Betrayal is vintage Brett Battles: a gritty, gripping masterpiece of suspense, a thriller that makes the pulse pound—and stirs the heart as well.

"A real thriller and I couldn't put it down. It's fresh -- mentioned the govt takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, etc. The plot was "sort of" confusing and hard to follow but I'm glad I read it. It was a prepublication giveaway -- I hope they fix the typos and insert the missing words. Nevertheless, For some fast action (and I enjoy reading almost anything in which a child/children are involved -- must be my maternal instinct?). I think there might be a sequel because the "bad guys" (altho it was hard to tell which were the "real" bad guys) are still alive. The main character was involved in a previous book so the author might be writing a series???"

" This was a quick read purely for entertainment. I have not read any other books by this author so it took me a little bit to get how everyone was connected. I've read better plot lines in the same genre. The action scenes were well written but the interpersonal scenes seemed choppy at times, and almost like the author wasn't quite sure how to describe the moods and feelings of the characters. Not a book I would read again. "

" More of the same for this series, really. And I might be a horrible person, but I didn't care too much about all the special needs kids. I mean, it was a messed up plan, but just throwing children into peril isn't enough to automatically make me care. So I enjoyed it overall, but I wasn't amazed. "

" You want to pick this one up on a weekend because you will not be able to put it down. If you're not already hooked on Brett Battles' character, Jonathan Quinn, you will be...well before you have finished reading this novel. It's got to be one of the hottest picks of the summer! "

" Brett Battles is the only author who makes feel like I'm reading an action movie. During car chases, I grip the book like a steering wheel. "

" This book was an action-packed James Bond type of story. It's not the type of book that I normally read, which is probably why it took me so long to finish and I only gave it 3 stars. My husband really liked it, but it's definitely his kind of book. I can say for the sake of this review that the author accomplished the telling of this story in the way I expected. It was concise, not drawn out. He gave us the information and then followed through with the aftermath, just like he had been given orders to do so. The plot was well entwined and I was unable to predict the ending. I have not read the 2 books prior to this one in the series but I didn't feel that it made much difference. There were times when it was made obvious that the characters had a past together but it was easy to swallow, something that I imagine would be great for people who have read the other two in the series. One thing I find annoying with books in a series is when they go over what happened in the previous books again and again. It makes sections of the book boring, like you've already read them. The characters are not very deep, but Battles gets away with it because they are all basically undercover and you feel like you aren't supposed to know anything about them. Anything you do know provides you with enough information to understand the dynamics in the relationships and how that relates to the storyline. "
