Publisher Description

In Sarah’s Quilt, our indomitable heroine Sarah Agnes Prine, the courageous pioneer woman introduced in These Is My Words, shares her homespun wisdom and her heartache as she contends with life in the Arizona territories at the turn of the last century. Sarah’s Quilt opens in 1906 after years of drought have devastated the cattle ranches of Arizona. Sarah is faced with starving cattle, a dry well, and romantic advances from a scheming neighbor. In addition, she must try to save her brother’s family, who are victims of the great San Francisco earthquake. Sarah’s voice is indeed as comfortable an old quilt, and her many fans will eagerly celebrate her return.

“Older, tougher, wiser, Sarah enchants with her plainspoken energy and honesty. The title may suggest a gentle tale of domestic comfort, but the book is as straightforward, gritty and persistent as the woman who inspires it and as memorable as the landscape where she carves out her life.

— Publishers Weekly

Quotes

  • “Authentic in its detail, the novel's pace and intriguing cast of characters are reminiscent of Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove. A sensitive, vibrant story about the strength of love and family told in the voice of a woman who must be reckoned with.”

    — Denver Post
  • “Hard times, danger, love, well-defined characters, and a strong sense of place all merge to form the heart of this realistic novel.”

    — Dallas Morning News
  • “If you want a picture of what life was like back then, look no further. Authentic in feel, [this] is convincing historic fiction. The armchair traveler is in for an exciting trip.”

    — Santa Fe New Mexican

" I loved this second book of Nancy Turner. I got hooked on These Be My Words and just had to listen to this book too . Now I have started the Star Garden. Sarah Elliot’s character is such an extraordinary woman with so much stamina for life and love of family. The fact that this story of her life is based in Arizona Territory excites me since I live in AZ and visited many of the cities talked about in the book. "
