Comedy writer and middle daughter of Al Gore, Kristin Gore has written a funny and moving debut novel about life on Capitol Hill as seen through the eyes of Samantha Joyce, a twenty-six year old health care analyst to Ohio Junior Senator Robert Gary. Hard working, idealistic, extremely competent as well as neurotic and prone to daydreaming, Sammy, as she's known to her friends, has little time for anything, much less a relationship. But in the midst of lobbying and late-night dinners at the office, she meets Aaron Driver, who is hot, smart, and sweet, and who, after a night of binge drinking at a bachelor party, proclaims his love for her. But how will Sammy balance her seventy-plus hour weeks with her budding romance, while keeping her best friend's slimy boyfriend from hitting on her, and making time for family, who insist her outfits match the centerpiece. "SAMMY'S HILL is full of sly plot twists and big laughs, and every word rings true." (Matt Groening, THE SIMPSONS)

"My stepmother handed me this book as I left her house a month ago. I wasn't sure what to expect. I ended up really enjoying it. I found the main character (Samantha/Sammy) really funny and extremely relatable (at least to me). I have already put the next book (Sammy's House) on hold at the library."

“Sammy’s Hill is full of sly plot twists and big laughs, and every word rings true.”
— Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons“Readers will have fun trying to figure out the real political figures represented in Gore’s book, but the true joy is the delightful Sammy herself, a quirky, clever, and completely lovable heroine whose charming narration is guaranteed to have readers in stitches.”
— Booklist (starred review)“Sammy's Hill is witty and engaging…[a] clever contemporary political adventure.”
— Amazon.com, editorial review" Very funny read "
— Resa, 2/8/2014" This book is laugh-out-loud funny. I read this as a diversion when I was prepping for the GREs and it was just what the Dr. ordered. "
— Madelyn, 1/29/2014" I did not care for this book. It falls into the 'chic lit with annoying/helpless main character that makes bad decisions' category. That's all I can really say about it. It did improve as it progressed, but still... if I wasn't reading this for a book club, I probably would have given up... "
— Lisa, 1/29/2014" It's not anything revelatory, but it is entertaining...kind of a thinking woman's chick lit. I think I came across the author while processing her latest book for circulation at the library. I believe what caught my attention was that she has written for Futurama and the book's main character works on health care legislation for a progressive senator. After I finished the book and turned it over, I noticed that a reviewer called it "Bridget Jones goes to Washington." I concur completely; though it was almost exactly what I expected, it did hook me enough to read the second half all in one sitting. "
— Kari, 1/9/2014" I really liked this book and laughed a lot! That Kristin Gore is so witty! The reason I gave it 3 stars is because I'm a bit of a softy and if this were a movie, I would rate it PG-13. See, I'm a softy! There was a lot of sex going on, though it didn't give any details. I think there might have been some language too but right now I can't remember. It's been a couple months. Having said all of that, I liked the story enough to keep reading and I just HAD to know what happened at the end. "
— Pam, 1/1/2014" Highly entertaining. Kristen Gore has a great sense of humor which comes through in her writing. "
— Kerri, 12/29/2013" So funny! And it's a chicklit book that actually made me feel smarter. S-M-R-T. "
— Jillian, 12/27/2013" Fast and hilarious. Comparable to Bridget Jones and Shopaholic. "
— Sharon, 12/26/2013" So dang much fun -- and I'm not going to lie. The pseudo-celeb author factor added another layer of fun to this otherwise "chick-lit." "
— Dawn, 12/6/2013" Did not finish it, too girly. "
— Byron, 11/28/2013" Was not crazy about this book. Sammy wasn't too likable and it was just very predictable. It was fine for the beach. "
— SaraK, 10/31/2013" Full of that thing that's always missing from modern fiction - PLOT! Funny and smart and so entertaining. "
— Anne, 10/24/2013" Cute, but forgettable. I say this because I realized once I was 100 pages in that I'd already read it. But I read it again since I was trapped on a plane... "
— Ayyana, 10/20/2013" Beach reading. I didn't realize that this was Al's daughter at the time I picked it up. I had low expectations. I don't regret reading it. "
— Barbara, 10/2/2013" Would have benefited from some editing. The main character was so loaded with quirky character traits that at times she was difficult to root for or like. "
— Liesl, 8/20/2013" Yes, this proves they give just any famous name a book deal..the story was very contrived and the only thing that kept me reading was relating to the Washington lifestyle. "
— Melanie, 8/19/2013" This is one of the most charming books I've ever read. Sammy is a kook & a dork, but her quirks are hysterically funny. The ending is PRICELESS. "
— Alli, 7/13/2013" Loved LOVED this book! "
— Danielle, 2/9/2013" I laughed so hard at this wacky politically rooted story. I absolutely adored it and couldnt wait to get the sequel "
— Jana, 11/17/2012" Very funny and cute. Just think of this as Bridget Jones on Capital Hill. "
— Mia, 10/1/2012" i love the inner thoughts of the main character. she is quirky as all get out and I look forward to reading her next novel with the same characters. "
— Miquela, 2/27/2012" It was way too much chick lit meets Brigid Jones, throw in politics to make it different. I stopped torturing myself at p.53--life is just to short to read books you don't click with. "
— Vicki, 2/11/2012" Difficult read for me...wouldn't recommend it "
— Melissa, 1/16/2012" A good fast entertaining read. "
— Megan, 12/29/2011" A fun, humorus read about a young single woman working on Capitol Hill. Written by Al Gore's daughter Kristin. Anxious to read the sequel, Sammy's House. "
— Barb, 11/18/2011" Thought this book was well written and a really cute story. I found all of the information about working on the hill to be interesting- though I have no idea how accurate it really was. "
— Cara, 8/29/2011" The main character was not well developed nor was she easy for me to relate to. "
— Jackie, 8/2/2011" This book was lighthearted and a lot of fun. It's a capitol hill (and slightly better) version of The Nanny Diaries/The Devil Wears Prada. "
— Deb, 7/2/2011" quirky and a laugh out loud book "
— Miwa, 5/7/2011" I really adored this book and have read it a few times. The main character is zany without being too Bridget Jonesy for me. She's smart and dedicated, but just has some great quirkiness to her. The followup book was almost as good, but this one is the must-read! "
— Alison, 3/27/2011" I did not care for this book. It falls into the 'chic lit with annoying/helpless main character that makes bad decisions' category. That's all I can really say about it. It did improve as it progressed, but still... if I wasn't reading this for a book club, I probably would have given up... "
— Lisa, 3/24/2011" The main character had far too many flaws/quirks. She was supposed to be "soooo smart" but came off as an incompetent idiot who I would have hired to walk my dog. Very predictable plot. "
— Emily, 3/20/2011" pretty predictable...but pretty good, easy, fun read. "
— Shelly, 3/19/2011" LOVED this book!!! The writing was so hilarious - the lead character was so like an actual real person - like me or one of my friends. I was thrilled when she came out with her second book - and can't wait for more!! "
— Robin, 2/18/2011" So far so good. 1st book club book!

Very "coming of age" meets "Bridget Jones Diary". "
— Alissia, 2/16/2011" Sometimes you just need a mindless read that tells a good story. I've really enjoyed Kristin Gore's books for that reason & life in Washington DC is always fascinating to me. I think she has another book coming out soon! "
— Lindsay, 2/12/2011" I enjoyed it more than other reviewers, but I think that's because I live in the D.C. area and spend time on the Hill. Makes it a bit more relatable. That, and I too can be neurotic like Sammy. "
— Jessica, 2/10/2011" quirky and fun book. interesting life of the peon's in the political system. highly recommend. 2nd book good, but not quite as good as the first. i look forward to more books by Krisin "
— Marie, 2/2/2011" hahahahahha..make u interest with d' politic... "
— Bulqiss, 1/28/2011" Thought this book was well written and a really cute story. I found all of the information about working on the hill to be interesting- though I have no idea how accurate it really was. "

— Lorraine, 1/16/2011" light and funny, laughed a lot "
— Debbie, 1/15/2011" I decidedly hate chick lit. Also, if I remember correctly, this book could have won an award for the number of mentions of a Blackberry. "
