Publisher Description

All of the beloved characters are back in the ninth mystery in this popular series. This time the 13-year-old sleuth is up against a cat burglar - literally!

Cats are disappearing and Sammy is finding some of them in neighborhood garbage cans - dead! Miss Kitty, a local psycho cat lady, blames Sammy. Meanwhile, there's something fishy going on with one of the students from Slammin' Dave's Pro Wrestling School that just opened up next door to Sammy's friend Holly.

If that isn't enough, Sammy's mother reveals that her true birth date is a year off, so she isn't really turning 14, and Sammy discovers that she actually shares her birthday with archenemy, Heather Acosta. Is it another year of unlucky 13, or is this the year Sammy's luck will finally change?

" Again, Sammy is dealing with some sensitive subjects, in this case, dead cats. Many people would find the idea 'sick' but the reality of life is that such things do take place. I'm glad Sammy helped put a stop to this abuse. "

" I don't mind the shift from present-first to past-first tense (I prefer past tense), but I don't care for the recent trend to stick gay/lesbian characters into books--I feel like I'm being force-fed political/social statements. "

" This is one of my favorite books in this series. There is more intensity in this book than in many of the others, and it makes you want to never stop reading! I can't tell you anything because if it will give something away. The Sammy Keyes series is kind of like a modern Nancy Drew series. "

" Sammy is hilarious - a thirteen year old sleuth with serious attitude! Sometimes I find myself laughing out loud as I read. Unfortunately, this adventure was not quite as fun as some of her previous ones. Too slow until the final few chapters, and then too predictable. "
