Happy is good. Holy is better.

Your marriage is more than a sacred covenant with another person. It is a spiritual discipline designed to help you know God better, trust him more fully, and love him more deeply.  What if God’s primary intent for your marriage isn’t to make you happy . . . but holy?

Sacred Marriage doesn't just offer techniques to make a marriage happier. It does contain practical tools, but what married Christians most need is help in becoming holier husbands and wives. Sacred Marriage offers that help with insights from Scripture, church history, time tested wisdom from Christian classics, and examples from today's marriages.

Sacred Marriage reveals how marriage trains us to love God and others well, how it exposes sin and makes us more aware of God's presence, how good marriages foster good prayer, how married sex feeds the spiritual life, and more.

The revised edition of Sacred Marriage takes into account the ways men's and women's roles have expanded since the book was first written. It has been streamlined to be a faster read without losing the depth that so many readers have valued.

Sacred Marriage uncovers the mystery of God’s overarching purpose. This book may very well alter profoundly the contours of your marriage. It will most certainly change you. Because whether it is delightful or difficult, your marriage can become a doorway to a closer walk with God, and to a spiritual integrity that, like salt, seasons the world around you with the savor of Christ.

" This book created some good conversations with my wife and I liked some of his main ideas (marriage isn't about you, etc). I didn't like a lot of the illustrations which ranged from "that's a stretch to make your point" to "I'm not sure that's really true". There were chapters that had a very mystical bent, which I think can be very unhelpful. It's a decent book, but there are many better titles on marriage. "

" One of my very favorite books on marriage so far. It gives you a completely new perspective on the purposes of marriage and how to face every issue that comes up. Even just the sub-title gets you thinking: "What if God intended marriage to make you holy more than happy?" "

" Language was wordy and wasn't practical in applying to life. There was a little too much focus on the sexual and it was quite odd. "

" It was really great til the last 5 or so chapters, which just repeated the thesis over and over without any insightful stories or comments. Definitely a must-read for men and women though. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Craig | 1/24/2014

" After finishing this book I would really prefer to give it 3.5 stars. The author pulls out some great truths the at the end. While it was a little slow going to begin with, it started pick up at the end. Also, I cannot round up to 4 stars because this book just doesn't quite make it. "

" Good Book...My wife and I read it together and then was in a small marriage group through the book. I'm not going to lie, it is Very Trough Reading at least 40% of the time. Words you might have never even heard of! LOL We all said the same thing in our group, and thought we would have received more out of the reading if it was written a bit more simple. But it was wonderful and we grew spiritually and in our marriage. And that is what Matters! Thank You Jesus! :) "
