Hap Collins and Leonard Pine are in for an action-packed adventure when they cross paths with a towering Pentecostal preacher, a midget with a giant attitude, and a gang of bikers turned soldiers of fortune. Even though a midlife crisis just crashed into Hap Collins like a runaway pickup, he’s still got his job, he knows his best friend, Leonard Pine, will always be there for him, and, of course, he’s got his main squeeze, Brett Sawyer. Things hit a new low, however, when Brett’s daughter, Tillie, who’s been walking on the wrong side of the law, suddenly stands in need of a rescue. It won’t be easy — it never is — but nothing is going to stop Hap and Leonard as they hit the road destined for Hootie Hoot, Oklahoma, to shake things up. And with Hap and Leonard at the wheel, this promises to be a wild ride. “Hilarious. . . . Addictively scarfable. . . . Two thumbs-up, and pardon the barbecue smears.” - Texas Monthly “[Joe Lansdale is] master at taking a simple everyday event and turning reality upside down.” — Mystery Scene

"This fifth installment of the Hap and Leonard novels is as rude, crude, and funny as the others. As Lansdale explores the seamier side of America, notably East Texas with a detour to Oklahoma, his new topics include white slavery, Mexican motorcycle gangs, and midget abuse....LOTS of midget abuse. A problem tends to creep into this series. You start wondering how many more deadly situations, dark forbidding topics and unfunny subjects can the author continue to make funny. Yet, all the darkness and black humor become palatable when you realize that Lansdale's real topic is friendship and male bonding. Hap and Leonard work because they care so deeply that they cannot even think of letting the other down. Even thought they are so different their friendship remains and that what keeps these stories so interesting. And if I ever get a pet armadillo, I'm naming him Bob."

" "Un gran casino". Grazie per avermici portata, in questo gran casino. "
— Terri, 2/7/2014" More like 4.5 stars. Lansdale hits all the right spots, as always. Hap and Leonard are damaged characters in a damaged world, and they do large amounts of damage to others to get by, 'cause they have to...dark, gritty and wonderful... "
— G.N., 1/28/2014" The problem I had with the previous book in the series didn't show back up here. Life is cheap, but it's a part of Hap and Leonard's world as opposed to something that makes me feel like Lansdale is being uncareful. "
— Andrew, 1/13/2014" Not one of his best. Lots of action, but not as funny as others. "
— Amy, 1/6/2014" The characters of Hap and Leonard are so precise, it plays like a movie in my brain. Hap reminds me a bit of the black guy from Chasing Amy, with a bit of Chuck Norris thrown in. I'm a bit sad this is the last in the series, but I'm looking forward to reading his other novels. "
— Brad, 9/5/2013" Nothing quite like a book where a gorgeous redhead pistol whips a midget and two good ol' boys from East Texas take on modern day Comancheros...more from Joe R. Lansdale his ownself... "
— Shedrick, 9/4/2013" This is one of a series, featuring Hap and Leonard. Very good. read in order. I think Savage Season is the 1st "

— Jon, 9/14/2012" Another fun, fast paced Hap and Leonard tale by the great Joe Lansdale. This one isn't quite as violent as some of the others, and its an extremely fast moving story. The ending was a tad weak, but I enjoyed this book overall. "
